Top 25 teams in NCAA Football 09
May 9, 2008 by pastapadre

With Operation Sports having released a video which displays team rankings and ratings I feel comfortable in going forward with listing out the top 25 teams in NCAA Football 09 (I’ll continue to hold off on the toughest places to play and top player ratings). When it comes to the actual team ratings I wouldn’t put much stock into those. I began taking them down before realizing that the numbers were different each time I viewed the team.
While the top 25 may not be finalized (LSU will probably drop) this should at least offer an idea of how the best teams in the game will fall in place.
#1 Georgia
#2 Oklahoma
#3 Ohio State
#4 USC
#5 Florida
#6 LSU
#7 Missouri
#8 West Virginia
#9 Wisconsin
#10 Texas
#11 Clemson
#12 Texas Tech
#13 Penn State
#14 Arizona State
#15 Kansas
#16 Auburn
#17 Virginia Tech
#18 Illinois
#19 Tennessee
#20 BYU
#21 South Carolina
#22 Alabama
#23 Oregon
#24 Cincinnati
#25 Wake Forest

As an Illinois fan I am not sure that they will hold that spot seeing that they lost Rashard and Juice Williams is not really a good qb.
Thats a OK list.
I know Oregon had an impressive bowl win without dixon, but I don’t think they should be ranked in the top 25 seeing how bad they played in the other games without him. They also lost Jonathan Stewart and that one bowl game shouldn’t have gave them that much weight.
yessss, my UGA dawgs is on top. Hey pasta will you release the toughest places to play…
ASU won’t be in the top 25 by the end of the season.
Michigan isnt even in the top #25, not surprising. New staff, and alot of key starters gone and a big question at qb, tough season for them.
LSU needs to be changed. They shouldn’t be #6, RP needs to be out of the game.
why are there 7 SEC teams in the top 25????
why is south carolina and tennessee even mentioned? auburn is bringing an entire new OFFENSIVE scheme! come on man!!! none of these teams will lose less than 3 games….
BANK IT!
Oregon? Are you kidding me?

go canes!!!! lol we will make the top 25
im a miami(fla) fan , but i will admit the SEC is the best hands down …..not even close
I can personally guarantee that there will not be 7 teams in the SEC in there at season’s end. S@*t, They’ll be lucky to get 4 (Bama, SC and Tennessee…not a chance) Bank it and quote it!

Yeah, it is going to be tough. But for my dynasty, i always use Michigan. I’ve been looking forward to starting my dynasty as Michigan once again this year. It will be fun for me because I am going to pretend that I was hired back before the new years as head coach. Since I hate the spread offense, I will be running the conventional Michigan offense that has been run in the past. The first thing I am going to do is switch Ryan Mallet back to Michigan because he would have never left if the scheme didn’t change. I would also get back some of my offensive linemen that have transferred.
I hope the gameplay will be good this year because it will make me feel like I am picking up where coach Lloyd Carr dropped off. I can’t wait.
where the hell is USF!?!?!?!

All I have to say is I-L-L baby!!! It’s nice to see that there are people in Champbana take football seriously. I was there from ‘04 - ‘06 as a Grad student and I was told to sit down by this lady during a crucial 3rd down. I was pissed!
As far as the game goes…I’ve never understood why people get so geeked about player ratings. Am I the only person who changes them to what I think they should be once the season goes along?

usf isnt there because they need to work back into it im not suprised
I think that’s a pretty good spot for Oregon. They’re gonna have a huge running game next year, not to mention a nasty defense. And one of the reasons they did poorly at QB after Dix went down was because the real #2 QB Nate Costa tore his ACL in practice the week before. He’s back now. Ducks are gonna be good.
Bulldawgs all the way but it will be hard for us coming out of the SEC this year undefeated and with the number one spot. I still see us playing in the BSC Bowl at years end if we stay healthy. I will be seeing a lot of you online with my Dawgs behind me. WHO LET THE DAWGS OUT. ^_^

Nice to know we have your guarantee on that. Now for a guarantee of my own. Georgia, Florida, LSU, Auburn, and Alabama will be in there in the end. In 2004 when Auburn went undefeated they had a new offensive scheme. Auburn should finish with 3 or 4 losses which is good enough to round out the top 25. Alabama has Nick Saban in his second year there so I would expect them to be in there at the end as well. Then you can never count out Steve Spurrier at SC
Glad to see those wisconsin badgers in the top 10, hopefully they don’t drop, even though we dont have a solid QB

This is a typical answer given by someone who knows nothing about this years Oregons team. Oregon defense will be even better then it was last year. Secondly Jonathan Stewart is a loss but didnt leave Oregon empty handed. Everyone forgets a guys just as valuable as Stewart was lost early in the year, Jeremiah Johnson and he will be back along with a stud top ju-co back Blount. Were they caught off guard when they lost Dixon, yea. But when Chip Kelly got a full off season to work with Dixon, a guy everyone said shouldnt even start, he turned him into the Heisman winner.
Its always easy to spot the people who open their mouth without knowing what they are talking about
Pre-season rankings mean zero. I do like Georgia but where are my Irish? I keed, I keed….
ND is two years away. Of course, Charlie is already stirring the pot as he stated “Michigan can go to hell.” YES!!! My man…
We’ll find out how good Oregon is when they come to Ross Ade Stadium on Sept. 13 to play the Boilers. I dont care what uniform they wear, they wont win in West Lafayette.
Wanted to drop the Clemson alternate uniform screen (I believe they have two in the game) here since there have been some technical difficulties getting it up on their website today.

Rutgers will be up there by the end of this season. Everyone thinks just because ray rice is gone that theyre done but they still have teel, underwood and like 4 runningbacks that should all contribute.. Also they have a great secondary.
This is kind of off topic, but from the videos on Operation Sports, it seems like the gameplay is very arcady. Is this because it is on Varsity mode?
Excellent seeing my dawgs #1, now Moreno just needs to be one of the guys with a 99 rating.

I wouldn’t describe it that way. At least on All-American we were getting big plays, but that is college football. We did ask for some improvements to the defense to help out that side of the ball a little though because it seemed that the offense has a distinct advantage, so we’ll see how much they have adjusted it.
Also, from one of their vidoes, it looks as if most of the stadiums are in (i.e. Duke, new Stanford and Wash State). Has it been confirmed that they are all in pasta?
Thanks,

ASU, overrated as always.
pasta what do you think clemson’s other alternative jersey combo is?

Couldnt really see Ga. ratings what are their individual ratings ie. off. def. and overall

I-N-I! But seriously, Juice might not be a great QB, but he definitely getting better. As seen previously in the OSU game… he has the ability to lead the team through a hostile environment, and I think UofI has earned their spot as #18.
Thats right

You might be right about the defense improving, but the quarterback and running back positions are the two mist critical positions in football. Dennis Dixon would have turned it around regardless of who the oc was because he is very athletic and also had a lot of experience. Mental errors by the quarterback will boot oregon out of the top 25 by the middle of the season, mark my words.

As an Illinois student i would like to say you have no idea what you’re talking about(respectfully of course). This offense is tailor made to Juice William’s style. Don’t forget he’s a junior now, not a 19 year old freshman or sophomore anymore.
juice is the man and if i dont run wit west Virgina i’ll be running with THE JUICE

Yeah maybe. Quarterback is still iffy, but I think we’ll be fine. Roper is battle tested as he led us in the sun bowl over a solid USF defense. Costa, the likely starter, knows the offense very well and our offensive coordinator said he has the abilities to run the offense better than dixon did… The running back situation is a non-issue. We are deeper this year than we were last year in the running back department. And our defense will be good. We have the defensive backfield to neutralize purdue’s passing attack.
where is Syracuse….. oh wait, damn……
If NCAA 09 can get the ratings right for BYU, BYU will be a real good team to use online. There runningback just dominates defenses himself.
For all the Juice Williams lovers….. He is not even the best QB on his own team. Eddie McGee is better. I bet by midseason he will be the starter and Juice will be 2nd string.
Hey pasta how do the UGA blackout jersey’s look?
Gee..i cant wait to have another season of hearing how great the SEC is….and all that team speed…Im sure Fla will have 3 losses and be the top ten cuz that treacherous ole miss..vandy…south carolina…kentucky fearsome foursome must impossible to deal with year in and year out…as for all that speed…yes the sec is fast..but that is wayyy overblown…Lsu didnt beat osu cuz they were faster..they beat osu cuz they coached and prepared better….
Nice to see UW#9- but if they dont get that QB situation under control they wont be there long sadly..
I agree Eddy McGee is maybe a better QB that Juice…no Mendenhall will hurt BIG time..
Penn St. #13 baby! Our new Junior QB should help fo sho.

The SEC is good because they are strong, fast, and they play defense. By the way that treacherous foursome for Florida this season is actually Georgia, LSU, Tennessee, South Carolina (don’t knock SC, they’re not exactly a bad team)

Mountain West defenses, mind you.
Just to let every one know this i am from oklahoma and every time ou is rank the lose stop putting them at number 2 and 3 put them at number 10,12,13
and put a team like wvu #2,3
pluse i hate ou Go Horns

Wrong again, we are deeper at running back this year then we were last year. QB might still be iffy but it wont be “mental errors” like you said, it will be their rough road schedule if there is any reason they dont finish in the top 25 but they will

out of all the conferences in the ncaa the SEC is overall the best…
BANK IT!
really i dont consider Illinois should be above Tenn… they beat one good team, big whoop!. Tenn beat south carlonia, arkansas, georgia. There even above Oregan!Get it right EA
Anybody who says $**t about this years oregon team obviously doesnt know anything bout them… Just watch them this year wit those sweet unis and then shutup… thank you
Im not knocking SC..or the sec..they are SUPER talented and usually the best conference i agree….But What has SC really done since spurrier took over?? Not much..UT has largely disspoited lately and hasnt won many big games…Except Wisconsin::(:(:(…The top is really good..but they are more mediocre programs then SEC fans think they really are…no one fears atleast 6 maybe 7 teams in the SEC as the fans think they do…Again..not trying to ruffle feathers…I agree SEC is a really good conference..Just not as a superpower they are pecieved to be…
pasta is it confirmed that there wont be bowl patches and team specific endzones? and are the bowl games presented differently than regular season games? thanx

that new offensive scheme is the same one that auburn beat #11 Clemson with last year.
I love the Oregon fan a few posts above that says Oregon will be really good this year because they have “sweet uni’s”. I hope Purdue gets new uni’s so that they can win the national title because I guess that is all you need to be really good…… By the way, most of Oregon’s 1,532 uniforms are freakin ugly!
Boiler Up!
Boilers wrote:
if you actually bothered to read what he wrote, he said they had sweet unis and didnt say thats why theyd do well. Dont worry when Oregon comes to Purdue by the end of the game youll know how good they are when they leave with a win
Pasta I am excited that FSU has there unconquered jerseys in the game. I noticed that they weren’t in the top 25 (they don’t deserve it yet) but their team ratings are really high ala high 80’s 90’s. That is better than than a lot of teams in the top 25. Why does EA do that?
Badger Boy21 wrote:
are you joking?!?!?! seriously…… you cant be 4 real. sent to the pros and being good in the pros is 2 totally different things. by the way stop hanging out in the parking lot at walmart it is not a club.
Ron Dayne? Jim sorgi? Brooks Bollinger? Jamar Fletcher LOL ok… ok… ill give you JOE THOMAS but thats it roflmao
Did i say they were gona win cuz they had sweet unis dip$**t? (and yes purdue should get new unis cuz those things are freakin ugly!) and on sept 13, 2008 ur boilermakers(watever that is??) are gone get destroyed… and it wont be close… sry
Wow, please don’t call Purdue’s uniforms ugly. That really hurts my feelings. Dennis Dixon is not there to save Oregon this year. Oregon is one of the most overrated programs in the country year in and year out. Seriously look into their history and tell me what they have done. Their last Rose Bowl was 1995 when they got hammered by a big ten school, Penn State. Phil Knight sponsorship can get you a million uniforms and publicity, but it doesnt mean you are a great program like Ducks fans think!…. In all honesty, Purdue will be an average team this year. But I highly doubt Oregon comes in and dominates. It’ll be a good game.
