NCAA Football 09 cover reveal event

April 25, 2008 by pastapadre

Some of you may have noticed that my initial hands-on impressions of NCAA Football 09 are no longer up. Apparently there was some sort of miscommunication and we were not informed of an embargo which holds until May 2nd. I’ll have my full gameplay and feature impressions up then.

So I thought I’d throw up a short recap of the PS3 NCAA cover reveal event with some pictures. Jake Long, Matt Ryan, Darren McFadden, DeSean Jackson, Chris Long, and Owen Schmitt were in attendance along with the game on display. I was as able to speak with some producers including NCAA’s Ben Haumiller (the guy behind online dynasty) and Madden’s Phil Frazier along with getting to meet Peter Moore.

The highlight of the night was having the opportunity to play DeSean Jackson in a game of NCAA 09. I had overheard at the event that he was the cover athlete for the PS2 version of the game and he was excited about that. I asked him where he thought he might end up and he mentioned the Cowboys and Bucs. He came across as a really good guy and it made the game a lot of fun. It got quite competitive with a little trash talking involved as well. I took Washington and he went with 6th ranked LSU (by the way the top rated team is Georgia). After jumping out to a 7-0 lead he would go on to score three touchdowns and go up 21-7 late in the third quarter. However I came back and scored the game tying touchdown with about 2:30 left. Unfortunately this is when the game froze on us. It likely was an epic ending we missed out on as the Pastapadre-DeSean Jackson rivalry ends in a draw.

Continue on to view some more pictures.

UW hanging with 6th ranked LSU? Talk about unrealistic. Game-killer! :)

Sounds good Pasta, except for the freeze part. I am a little surprised about the choice of Jackson, as his senior year was mildly disappointing as his whole team went in the tank. I don’t know if many fans outside the Pac-10 know about him, but his highlight reel return vs. Tennessee probably helped.

Jake Locker is the man. I had to apologize to DeSean for UDub beating them last year.

hey pasta, thanks for the info.
Do you happen to know where the Florida gators were ranked in the game? Or what their ratings were. Thanks.

Haha. Way to go Pasta, make Udub proud.

Can you tell what Locker’s rating is this year, or is that part of the silence period?

No offense Pasta, but all this stuff about alternate uniforms is irrelevant to me if the overall game isn’t better. I loved NCAA 08 but I thought it sorely lacked in presentation. I know you can’t talk about that yet but can you at least tell us if they’ve made huge improvements in this area?

  24. patrick on April 25th, 2008 2:05 pm Quote

    Pasta,

Since you spoke about jersey alternates, can you answer a question for me. Does Clemson have Orange jerseys as well? You mentioned all purple and purple/white, but no orange. I understand if you cant speak on this matter.

    Thanks!

No, for the most part the athletes were up in an interview area with real media hording around them. I lucked into getting to play DeSean Jackson as he basically just walked into the game room and grabbed the controller.

Well I don’t know if he was there or not, but I do know that if he was I didn’t play him. DeSean Jackson is the only person I played at that event.

One thing I want to know is are there any hair styles back in the game??? what in the world happened to them? Plenty of players still wear long hair or dreads in college football, seems to me taking them out of the game is very unrealistic. Are they back?

I think the online dynasty is going to be the coolest thing to try out but imagine 1 player for each school and maybe its just a all sim league where your more of just building your team and you sim like 3 times a week a few days to recruit.

I’m glad he put forth his best outfit for the outing. I guess he was saving his jean shorts for a trip to the white house or a movie premier.
