First Prizefighter gameplay footage; 2K rep berates producer

With just one month to go until release the first gameplay footage from Don King Presents: Prizefighter has finally appeared. Up until now the storyline has seemed intriguing (despite it being linear) but there have been questions around the gameplay and why no videos had been shown or hands-on time been given.
In a demonstration done on the Gamespot program “On The Spot” executive producer of the game Matthew Seymour walks through some of the aspects of the story mode and fighter creation before getting to the gameplay.
Needless to say the action looks…well the best way to put it may be awkward. I still think that the story mode could be fun to play through but the gameplay shown is rough to watch.
With this being the first look at the game and the big news coming out on Fight Night Round 4 yesterday, it is an uphill battle to keep or gain the interest of gamers right now considering the position Prizefighter has placed itself in.
In something that may be even more interesting than the video, a representative of 2K Sports on the company’s official forum (2K Admin Ron) is publically berating the game’s executive producer for his “ridiculous representation of the game“, that it looked like he had never played the game before, and that the game was made a mockery of. All of those quotes and more can be found in the reaction thread in their forums.

It looks as though 2K is in a free-fall with their games and their company. Everything looks very akward in prizefighter. Punches seem slow, and the boxers’ arms look weird when they reach to punch.
I think 2K needs to stop making games. I used to love the 2K series, but it’s just not doing anything positive anymore. Even NBA 2K8 was a let down, and that’s their best series. There just seems to be no effort in 2K’s games anymore. Can’t wait for EA to take over. Never thought I would say that. EA has the money and the resources, and it will show starting with EA’s 09 lineup….
Man even i gotta admit that game looks like pure garbage! And i’m a 2K supporter! That’s so disappointing to see, no wonder they hid gameplay videos for weeks! That’s atrocious!! Looks like Knockout Kings on PS1.

After what I saw with MLB2K8, I’m not surprised Prizefighter is trash. MLB2K8 was MUCH worse than 2K7. I think it’s only a short time now and 2K will be bought out and I can’t say it matters that much, as all their games now are terrible. College Hoops 2K8 was the only good one left and they cancelled it. lol
It’s funny that they put an idiot like that Matthew guy in charge of this game. This game had some serious potential, but once again 2K Sports screws something up.
Also, they’re going to be in full damage control mode now that game play has finally been revealed. 2K Sports website is down right now LMAO!!!!

I have no interest in Prizefighter, and I think MLB2K8 with the patch and sliders plays a very good game of offline baseball. I still love APF

I don’t know if I’ve ever seen a more amatuerish job of communication work held by a major software company in my life. Between the incorrect info on when patches are due, to the no information on what was IN the patch, to the hellhole that is their forums, and now this - well the whole thing is inexusable in this day and age
Hopefully the even more than anticipated cash flow from GTA will defer a takeover and T2 can re-invest is some of their assets, because right now the sports division appears to be held together with tape and baling wire

Check this out, when i saw that garbage yesterday and posted my opinion on the 2k site about how bad it was, a moderator sent me a PM threatening to suspend me because he said i had no business dogging the game!! I am a fan of 2K but it cracks me up how everyone is on EA for not innovating. There has been nothing innovative about NBA 2K or College Hoops 2K in the next-gen era. The graphics look the same every year. The gameplay is solid but 2K’s innovation stopped with NFL 2K5 (best football game ever)….
I will hold out for FN4 and Mike Tyson’s return to video game boxing….

It can be a factor sure since sports games are left open for individual styles. So when a media site posts up a video of a baseball game but swings at every pitch, or a football game and runs with the QB every play, or if the games are played on the lowest difficulty levels, it can affect the perception of it.
At the same time though there are some things that can be taken from a video regardless of how it was played and I think many have been pointed out in this case. The fact that it was the exec. producer too makes the situation unique (as opposed to the media site displays of games).

The game is not “doomed” guys, you’ll see on the new video that is coming.
To anybody that’s still going to purchase Prizefighter, just wait a few weeks after June 10th and i guarantee you’ll be able to get it for $19.99 (or less) at Best Buy instead of $60.00.

Well, I’ve been doing some talking with my guys at 2k and it looks like we can get the movie up in about an hour. It is a great five minute clip that I think will change many minds.

no sympathy from me here. with the MLB 2k8 mess which includes planting an employee to spread false info on the operation sports forum prerelease and now all this with prizefighter 2k has really gone down hard. its pretty sad because they used to be known as the company that was about the fans now everything they do goes against that.
