More Football Community Event Videos
June 1, 2008 by pastapadre

I went through and pulled out some of the better clips that I had taken over the two days with Madden 09, NFL Head Coach 09, and NCAA Football 09. With Madden there is a lengthy superstar mode one which displays from the perspective of a RB, QB, CB, and DE, along with a few gameplay sequences. Head Coach has a short gameplay clip, a lengthy one displaying the play creator (which you can actually put together plays much faster than I show in that), and one that flips through all of the NFL’s coaches. Finally with NCAA there are a couple highlight videos which I liked a lot.
Previous videos can be found in the hands-on reports over the past few days. Continue on to view the videos.

Damn, the pass rush in NCAA is non-existent. That’s gotta be fixed.
Pasta you the man thank you for quenching my virtual football thrust.

That is part of what contributes to the high efficiency level of the offense.
firs pasta i really appreciate you taking your time to post all these videos and answer questions.
great vids esp the madden ones
any news on when that guy is going to post info on franchise mode? im really looking forward to that.

Russell mentioned he was working on his NCAA write-up first, not sure on when he’ll be able to get to it. But I believe EA is posting a franchise blog this week, possibly as early as tomorrow.
Do they not fix the camera on superstar mode for QB every year for a reason?
while i admire the effort at doing th little things in Head Coach…and the deeper use of the ESPN license (draft reporting)…the game simply doesn’t look anywhere near as beautiful as the other two games (Madden and NCAA)…i got ten bugs saying this game is going to be buggy and sluggish…like i have been saying all along, it will be nothing more than a playbook creator for Madden…
Jonathon wrote:
There are different camera angles you can watch from, one is more up close to the action and it looks similar (though not as refined) to Madden’s graphics.
Marc T. wrote:
i noticed when playing as a QB in superstar mode…you couldn’t see your receivers on the far sidelines (similar to how madden had been playing before the new camera tweak this year)…that is uber-frustrating…
pastapadre wrote:
so in the different view modes…will the grass and players actually look as beautiful as madden 09? or are they using the madden 08 engine for their visuals?
So QB superstar mode we have to pretty much throw with a hop and a prayer? Wow this sux. Head coach, hey EA, thanks for the PS2 graphics…
Man at least Madden looks fun, but superstar/mmo lame mode looks terrible as usual…
I can tell from those videos that NFL Headcoach has exactly the kind of depth I’ve been waiting for from a next-gen football game…That’s gonna be the game I spend most of my time playing this fall, and if it’s as good as it looks, maybe for years to come.
Thanks Pasta.
Why does it really matter how good the in game looks for Head Coach. From the way it sounds, that’s such a fraction of the action in the game.
Jonathon wrote:
Good question, Im actually not sure on that, I spent more time in the off-the-field activities than running through actual games so I didn’t pay as much attention to the details. I think it is more along the lines of Madden 08’s visuals if I remember right.
Any chance of EA losing the exclusive license anytime soon? We need variety I dont care if it’s Midway THQ or 2K, just gimme some variety and don’t forcefeed me unpolished modes that pretty much become useless soon as u cycle past em once because of nothing that was improved on or fixed.
I appreciate your hard work Pasta, I just have to rant.
Pasta,
So are you confirming that the Pass Rush is and will be an issue?
Thanks for the vids. That Tebow pic 6 was sweet. How’s Collinsworth commentary in Madden? Sounds pretty good on a few of the madden vids.
In NFL Head Coach can you start right after the superbowl? If so then DeAngelo Hall should still be on the falcons right?
Afrodamus wrote:
isn’t that what sliders are for?
It’s been stated that sliders haven’t done much to increase the effectiveness of the pass rush.
pastapadre wrote:
thanks
um one more thing you probly didnt look but i know you said the alt uni’s are one classic and one alt. did you happen to see the cowboys ones?
Afrodamus wrote:
I suspect the hardcore crowd will find it to be. It contributes to the efficiency of the offense, and can make you feel somewhat helpless on defense. I’m not sure how big of a deal it will be ultimately though, at times it wasn’t even occuring to me but at other times it was noticeably absent.
D-12 wrote:
Yes. You can either start at the beginning of the offseason essentially rewriting everything that happened, or with the current rosters at the beginning of the preseason.

I thought Collinsworth was really good with the commentary, comes across very naturally and generally was accurate.
Pasta,
for the “freeze the kicker” mode at the end of the game after you call a time out the kicking meter freezes up when you move the right stick down you cant see the meter going up. If this is how it happens then thats actually pretty cool and i hope the put it into madden 2010. But knowing ea they probably messed it up somehow.
nyjetsfan1109 wrote:
If I remember right, you can see the meter going up it is just somewhat obscured by the ice, making it more difficult to see. Plus you get the heartbeat vibration and lowered camera angle which makes it more intense. I was disappointed to find out Madden didn’t have that, or something similar, this year.
Was it tipped to the NCAA developers that the lack of a pass rush was a big negative?
Cause it seems like EA quickly answered to the the camera flash complaints in Madden.
Question about Superstar that I already asked that you may have not seen cause you have gotten like 11ty billion questions..
Did you create a Superstar and go through the draft with them? Can they get drafted in the first round?
MannyBeltre wrote:
Yes, but at this point it would have to be addressed via patch. Whether they will or not is undetermined.
leglockfan wrote:
No, I only picked it up with current rookies.
Good deal, I can keep hope alive for another day
It sounds like they’re instituting a lot of suggestions. Apparently the camera flashes will be toned down, they are going to try and add a single kick returner play, trying to make weather affect the game more. Pretty neat to see them acting so quickly.
pastapadre wrote:
Yeah it is, to me this is such a huge step foward for EA. Never before have they addressed the community’s issues like this and made changes they way they have been this year. Quite impressed. By the way where was the video of freezing the kicker someone was talking about?
In the Seattle vs Buffalo clip I noticed a big change. The pass play after the kickoff- The reciever did not get stuck behind the defender over the middle. In the old Madden and NCAA the reciever would get stuck alot right there but it looks like he ran around him after the brief contact they made. That used to throw my timing off and usually resulted in an INT.
how come Belicheat isn’t in Head Coach 09
Pachin wrote:
He isn’t part of the coaches association so they can’t include him. This also used to be the case with Bill Parcells.
On a side note and an atta boy for EA, the Nascar 09 Demo rocked. I think the same studio that makes Madden made the Nascar game and I hear some of the Papyrus developers are behind the scenes. EA listened to the fans and made huge improvements to this game. Hit the X button before you race in the demo to change the length and AI or else your going to panic like me. I was passing everyone quickly and thats because it was on easy.
Its good to see that EA is paying attention to its fans lately.
pastapadre wrote:
That’s awsome! When you say they’re trying to make weather affect the game more, what exactly did you mean by that? Also do you know if it’s possible for EA to add accelerated clock via patch or is that something will have to wait til next year for?

Those of us who play online and head 2 head…do not use sliders

before everyone gets into a pickle about the ‘lack of pass rush’…what teams were you using? are you a blitzer? when i see two top ten teams going against eachother, i wouldn’t expect a lot of sacks…as it is the ELITE teams over the last five years have never averaged more than 3.5 sacks/game for an entire season (i think a non-bcs conference school averaged 4 sacks a game…but that was the most i had seen)…and you have to think a lot of those sacks are coming against sub-par opponents due to the way elite teams stack their schedule…just my thought…i would be more interested in seeing if there is a more efficient pass rush against non-bcs schools and lower division schools…
Josh wrote:
Things like instances of slipping on wet grass/turf. I read that accelerated clock is a possibility for making it in, but they aren’t sure if they’ll be able to.
One other thing is apparently they are going to make it if you drop back too far from the line of scrimmage (12-15 yards) the passing icons will disappear. That will be a great addition and prevent people from dropping back like that without incurring some sort of penalty.
Jonathon wrote:
Yeah, I wouldn’t say that it is necessarily about sack numbers though. More about putting pressure on the QB. For the most part you can be comfortable back there which makes it easier to run a high percentage passing game.
Josh wrote:
anything is possible VIA a patch…but with the game being released every year…i am about 99% positive that the only patches the game will see is to fix existing problems that may exist in the current features…IE. tweaking CPU AI that may not be legit, fixing random bugs or freezes, etc. adding a completely new feature is not something we will see in a sports game any time soon…due to the simple fact that the game is repackaged and updated every year…
pastapadre wrote:
gotcha…i definitely understand what you are saying…that would be nice to see a tweak on the d-line…but i hope that in the fix they dont make the d-line TOO aggressive, because then we would just get burned by QB bootlegs and the option…i also think a hurry stat would be cool…but that might be asking for too much…
i also loved the suggestion that EA was considering removing the passing icons if a player dropped back too far behind the line of scrimmage…brilliant idea…you should definitely find out more on this and let us know the chances of it coming to fruition…
pastapadre wrote:
That’s a great idea! Also, one last question, do you know if signature running back styles are still in the game? I know they instituted it in ‘07 & I would’ve liked to see them expand on that but I haven’t heard much if any talked about it. Thanx for the prompt responses Pasta! This is great info!
Jonathon wrote:
For the most part that is probably true, though look at Online Team Play which EA added to FIFA and NBA Live through patches. So it isn’t unprecedented that something like that could be done.
yo pasta…one more question…i thought i read somewhere that a person would not need to be on a friends’ list to download a NCAA roster file…is this accurate information? just curious…because i live in Korea at the moment…and none of my friends on my friends’ list even play sports games…just making sure i will be able to get the renamed NCAA roster files…thanks…
Josh wrote:
I don’t believe that they have signature running styles, but that it is something they’re looking to do for next year.
Jonathon wrote:
Yep. So basically you would just have to type in pastapadre to get the roster file I had uploaded, even if not on my friends list.
pastapadre wrote:
yeah…but with those additions…i got the vibe that they were planning on those modes being in the final copy of the game…but simply ran out of time to get them in…because they really weren’t released too long after the release of the game…i think a planned add-on is slightly different from a feature being added due to the fans imploring for it…
Jonathon wrote:
Right, but in the sense that they would hold back something just to have it as a new feature for the next year that doesn’t necessarily hold true after the Online Team Play additions. Consider that those two games got no credit for OTP in reviews since they weren’t out at the time. Overall though I agree with you, I doubt they would add accelerated clock in a patch.
pastapadre wrote:
that’s awesome…still more stoked for Madden…but i am pretty happy my Missouri Tigers aren’t going to be such pushovers this year…that being said…in real life, i think it might be hard for them to duplicate the season they had last year again…
pastapadre wrote:
Do you know if you Creat a new coach do you have to use the Pats? Or can you just create Belichick and choose another team?
Hey pasta i would like to know if there is going to be a campus legend or superstar mode blog? N what they’ve done to fix the AI in the mode? Or does my qb still throw 6 ints.
Very cool superstar videos, the stadiums I really like now. Even though Madden is still being adjusted, has facemask calls been missing still?
