Madden 09 gone gold clarification
June 25, 2008 by pastapadre

Earlier today came the news that Madden 09 had “gone gold” through an official EA press release. Generally having “gone gold” means that a game is completed, has cleared certification, and is ready to be mass produced. Those announcements tend to come very close to the release date of the game, so hearing that Madden 09 had done so was a big surprise.
Through correspondence with producer Phil Frazier I have learned in that sense Madden 09 has not gone gold. The game is completed (no further changes can be made) but has not yet finished certification with Microsoft and Sony. That process can take several weeks. Then the magnitude of the game in terms of production and shipping to be available at all retailers on August 12th has to be factored in.
So no, the game hasn’t been finished early. The timing of how all of this is happening is not out of the ordinary. However the phrasing used and early nature of this announcement certainly was.

that sounds more realistic for a game due out August 12th. Thanks Pasta for clarifying.
one of these days, I’m going to go gold.
I need to go 9x’s platinum, but counting down the days.
pasta where did u hear it was going gold? that is good news they can fix up the game because it is not perfect yet
Bad reporting, get it together Pasta
Seriously, thanks for the clarification, going gold in the traditional sense made no sense at this point.
Don’t rush it EA….take your time. I can wait a couple of months for a better product.
If they don’t seriously tone down (preferably remove) those stupid camera flashes then that will put a serious damper on the game experience. If they haven’t fixed it then they better send a patch or I will be very disappointed after all the good news we were hearing about last minute corrections. Who ever was the genious who decided to put those stupid flashes in should be fired!
They say that the product has not gone gold yet. However, they insist that no more changes can be made. It is quite alarming when you see a recent screen shot of Jeff Zgonina of the Houston Texans skin tone the likes of an African-American. If they are ready to release the game in its current status what other glaring errors are we to expect.

Though I admit they are annoying… have you ever seen a football game. People are taking pictures all the time. That’s how they get those cool pictures in Sports Illustrated.

I know people take pictures dude but when is the last time you watched an NFL game when there were 1000 flashes a second? If you don’t think those flashes are overdone then you don’t have a clue.
Stop crying about the flashes. They’re not that bad. You’re acting like they are gamekillers! They’re just flashes you big babies! LOL.
Quit crying.

don’t worry they have Brett Favre already in the game in free agency.
