Patch being worked on for Madden 08

Madden 08 Todd Heap

Yesterday EA tipped off that a patch is in the works for Madden 08 by releasing it prematurely for the PS3. As it was not complete it caused some problems and was retracted later in the day. Also the rosters on both the 360 and PS3 were rolled back to the original default set. It isn’t known whether the two issues were related.

There was an update today to fix the rosters back but that does not represent the final patch that is being worked towards.

By releasing the patch before it was ready EA let it be known that they were actually creating a patch, which is something that had been expected to happen but not yet confirmed.

It is unknown what the patch for the 360 and PS3 will entail, though it seems likely it will address the high frequency of fumbles during gameplay and the glitches within franchise mode. Those are the two topics which have dominated discussion around the game since release.

No ETA has been given yet on when to expect the completed patch for the 360 and PS3 versions of the game. Once it is released I expect to have the details of what it specifically addresses.

Over at OS they are saying that the patch is already out for 360. And it only addresses ‘under the hood’ online optimization issues.

I don’t believe that would represent the final patch that is being worked towards.

The patch that is out now has nothing to do with gameplay. So I am hearing anyways.

From what I can gather A patch is out, but it is not THE patch that we want. THE patch is in development though. And there is no timetable for when THE patch will be out.

I know that I am in the minority, but I still don’t see an all-the-time problem with fumbles happening too often. I play with the Rams almost exclusively and I have gone several games of feeding Jackson the ball 20+ times without a single fumble.

There are random occurrences of fumbles that are obviously bad calls - to entice people to use the challenges - and maybe one game out of 10 where there are 2 or 3 fumbles for each team, but since it does not happen every single game, I have a hard time saying it is a ‘glitch’ or somthing that COULD be patched without inadvertantly breaking something else in the game….

    We will see though…

I agree Moostache. I use the Packers exclusively and rarely do I have a game where Jackson/Morency have more than one fumble. When it does occur, it’s generally on a movement to the side where the hit can be delivered full on with little protection for the ball. In bad weather conditions, I see more fumbles as I would expect, but still not so many that it seems unrealistic.

Believe me, the fumble problem is there. I happen to like the idea of increasing the random element of the game, but the current version takes things to excess. You really see it when there are multiple plays where the ball is fumbled 2-3 times during the course of that one play.

What about the interception problem and the D-lineman who can run down Vince Young, Mike Vick, and Seneca Wallace from behind??!! What about addressing fair play rules?? I hate playing people who onside kick whenever, use goaline formation all over the field and who go for it on 4th down all the time and make it more often then not! Why not reduce these noobs stats be 75% when they go for it on 4th and 16 in the 1st, 2nd, or 3rd quarter?? Why not reduce their stats when they use goaline all over the field?? You will never see an NFL team use goaline on their own 20!! Its ridiculous. If EA wants to market a sim game then make it as close to a sim as possible!! Not just cherry pick with the rosters!! And its seems that every time there is an interception it gets ran back for a touchdown. Why? EA will lose one of there most loyal customers if they do not get there act together. One more year and I will defect if they lose there NFL license.

This is great news. I’m cautiously excited about the potential, and I’m going to give EA the benefit of the doubt for now.

I completely stopped playing Madden 08 weeks ago because of the absurd frequency of turnovers. If EA has truly addressed this issue with the patch, then I applaud them. If not, then the time will come to trade the game in.

I’m hopeful the problem has been resolved.

Hey mighty boom, isn’t going for it on 4th and 16 a risk-reward thing? You should be able to do it whenever you want because if they get stopped then they still have a turnover on downs…it’s really the concept of big risk-big reward. i have no problem with allowing it.

    Steave said….

Its a sim football game and it should be played as such.

there are some problems with it but other than yes i don’t think that a d-lineman can run down those players that’s the only thing wrong with it oooohhhh and the players don’t engage on the kickoff awareness awful
