EA Sports has released the details of the second patch for NCAA Football 10. This appears to be a very substantial patch which is somewhat expected since the first patch addressed little other than fixing the sliders, adding the ability to turn off DLC cheats in Online Dynasty, and making the somewhat more accurate rosters playable online. The patch is expected to be out soon but no official date has been specified as of yet.
As has been pointed out though in the comments there is no mention of player progression. That has been one of the most discussed issues with the game and was anticipated to be fixed but according to the info has not been addressed. I’m also surprised that there hasn’t been adjustment made to the Aggressive (aka Facemask penalty) game planning.
Continue on for the full patch list. Will this patch be enough to change alter your opinion on the game or is it too little, too late? Leave your thoughts on it in the comments!
- Player Lock in Online Games will now move the camera behind the locked player (like Offline games)
- Greatly increased the quality of uploaded videos
- Fixed an issue with penalties on a change of possession in Overtime
- Fixed an issue where you would sometimes lose control of your player going offsides in no huddle situations
- Tuned holding chances on Field Goals and Extra Points
- Fixed a couple pass coverage issues with Wild Cat plays
- Tuned the chuck success chances to favor more neutral results. Wins and Losses are extreme and should occur less for both the offense and defense
- AI Tackle slider is now more effective
- Lead Blocking tweaks to fix some cases of pulling lineman ignoring defenders
- Fixed a few rare cases that would cause players in pursuit to run away from the ball carrier
- Tuned the CPU ball carrier to make some smarter choices
- Fixed a bug where the CPU would high step at inappropriate times
- Tuned player switching logic to give a more appropriate player
- Fixed an issue with Punts being spotted incorrectly when the punt went out of bounce
- Corrected an issue where pressing in man coverage would cause the CPU to throw the ball too early
- If the receiver caught a pass during a slip, rarely would he be ruled down after the catch (even if he got up before making the catch). This has been fixed.
- Fixed a bug where sometimes the clock would continue to run after hold on an extra point
- Forward pitches are now correctly tracked as passing and receiving yards for the players involved
- Receivers will now try and release to the appropriate side of the defender based on their route
- Fixed some problems that were causing defensive players to not always get back in time during hurry up plays
- Reduced the effect of the Run Block Slider on special teams plays
- Tuned how effective the slant route for running backs out of the backfield was
- Tuned how far away diving sacks will start from
- Fixed an online grieve with pausing the game
- Fixed a bug where using a TeamBuilder team as the away team would cause the team colors to be incorrect
- Fixed an issue where some Dynasty teams were only able to offer 15 scholarships. You will not have to restart your dynasty for this to take effect, the fix is for offline and online dynasties.
- Certain TeamBuilder teams were incorrectly being blocked by the profanity filter and showing up as XXXX, this has been corrected
- Fixed and issue where Punt was not the default selection on 4th down and punting distance
- Off-centered single digit jersey numbers are now centered correctly
- Fixed a crash in Custom Stadium Sounds when the list of files was too long
- TeamBuilder teams with & in the name can now be searched properly
- Fixed an issue where the “Online Dynasty Servers are Down” pop-up was showing up incorrectly

First!! oh and EA Sports Sucks
August 24, 2009 at 11:34 pm
the fact this patch had to fix sooo many issues shows how bad this game was this year. not that it was literally a bad game, they just didn't do anything to make it different from last years…
August 25, 2009 at 8:53 pm
And you would be the same person complaining if they didn't fix any of the issues. Complain if they do, complain if they don't…geeez.
August 24, 2009 at 11:36 pm
Wow, quite the list. Would have been nice to have these fixes much sooner, but at this point it's not going to get too many people back who have left the games because of these issues.
August 25, 2009 at 6:32 pm
The $40 trade in value for towards Madden at Gamestop was quite useful for this game.
August 24, 2009 at 11:43 pm
* Certain TeamBuilder teams were incorrectly being blocked by the profanity filter and showing up as XXXX, this has been corrected
Finally!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Anyways this looks like wanna of the BIGGEST patch list i have ever seen!!!

Off Topic Madden 360 Glitch
Pasta, every time I have a DC my losses go up by more than one and my wins go down by more than one (3-4 on average). Also, my DNF and win/lose streak goes WAY out of balance. Can you find out what’s going on please?
August 24, 2009 at 11:52 pm
Oh yeah…You guys forgot to fix when going out of bounds somtimes, the clock still keeps running…C'mon EA get it together!
August 25, 2009 at 12:56 pm
There are two primary changes. First, the ready to play signal and 25 second play clock have been eliminated in favor of a running 40 second clock which will begin as soon as each play is whistled dead. Second, when players go out-of-bounds the clock will start on the referees signal as opposed to starting on the snap of the ball. Except for in the final two minutes of each half when the clock will stop until the snap of the next ball. Both of these rules are modeled on the NFL timing rules.
The rules have changed to try and shorten college games in real life. It is not a glitch.
August 29, 2009 at 7:17 pm
Just so you know, it's part of the new rules this year for the NFL and NCAA, if it's in the 1st or the 3rd quarter the clock keeps running because when running out of bounds they count it as forward progress.
In the 2nd and 4th quarters if you run out of bounds with under 2 minutes to go the clock stops.
August 24, 2009 at 11:53 pm
whats up with double jersey numbers amigo???
August 24, 2009 at 11:57 pm
I don't know if this patch is a good thing or a bad thing. It's good that the patch has substantial fixes but at the same time it's bad that the game was released with this many glitches & problems. It amazes me that the devs don't catch this stuff before release. Don't they have a team of people that check the game over & over for glitches? Maybe they should rethink their development process. The should dedicate a whole month just to check the game for issues like these. I know they say that they do already but it seems like this is becoming the norm for a game to be released half assed only to be strung along with a possible patch. By the time the patch comes out I would've already lost interest in the game because of so many other games out there.
August 25, 2009 at 12:23 am
I'd love to get in on a QA testing schedule for EA.
August 25, 2009 at 12:41 am
ur so right. it seems developers just try to get the game out as soon as possible and just know they can patch the stuff they didnt feel like doing before. i kinda wish they couldnt put out a patch because then they might try harder knowing they dont have a something that could bail them out.
August 25, 2009 at 4:24 am
Not trying to defend EA, per se, but these guys probably don't have a lot time trying fix bugs in such before release day. I'm pretty sure that their schedule and timelines are pressure packed enough just trying to get new things in the game and such. They do only have about a year to work on their sports franchise games. Hell, PC game devs are the KINGS of patches but at least now, with current gen console, they actually CAN patch games where as before, we were stuck with very glitched and flawed games. Be thankful for that instead of sounding like whiners all the time.
Also try to get educated about the business aspect of things, in general. I've never worked on a video game dev squad but can imagine the basic business model since I do work in corporate America and have been for over 10yrs, now and I can imagine how much pressure they're under to complete a game and all the processes they and it have to go through.
August 25, 2009 at 4:40 pm
You make some valid points but my point is that if they didn't spend so much time on gimicky useless features then maybe they would have time to fix bugs, work on gameplay, work on presentation, etc…. I know they have separate teams that work on different aspects of the game but this kind of stuff has been going on for years. You don't have to be an "educated" game developer to know that something is not right with that picture. We're not the developers we're the consumers. That's what they get paid to do not me. What's wrong with wanting a finished product out of the box?
August 30, 2009 at 12:31 pm
Nothing's wrong with wanting a finished product out of the box, at all, but you're making some unwarranted assumptions about EA's allocation of resources. Even if they used the whole development team to run playtesting before the release, that's only _at most_ 100 people. When they release the game, nearly 700,000 people are now running "playtests." Add in the facts that as soon as they release this year's version they begin next year's and that they have a limited amount of time pre-launch to run tests, and you get a serious crunch in resources. For the most part, games that ship without major bugs are the exceptions.
August 25, 2009 at 12:01 am
holy crap. that's a long list of stuff.
August 25, 2009 at 12:08 am
No fix for player progression resulting in too many 90+ overall players? Too bad…
August 25, 2009 at 12:24 am
Good point, totally missed that omission. I've updated my story with mention of it.
August 25, 2009 at 12:14 am
This will be their second patch and even with all of these fixes the game will still not be good enough for me to purchase it.
Maybe next year…
August 24, 2009 at 5:23 pm
Houston we have some problems
August 25, 2009 at 12:36 am
What about the holding issue on field goals and extra points in madden. was that fixed already or not cuz i dont have the game yet but has happened to me in the demo many times and lost a couple games for me so im wondering if that has been dealt with yet.
August 25, 2009 at 12:47 am
That is being fixed in Madden's first patch yes.
August 25, 2009 at 4:26 am
WTF are you talking about, then, if you haven't played the actual Madden game, not to mention this IS an article about the NCAA FOOTBALL 10 PATCH. Sheesh.
August 25, 2009 at 12:39 am
Terrible job on the patch considering the community made it clear progression and auto subs were key to be fixed.
Are option pitches still considered incomplete passes?
Time for a new development team because this one just does not get it. Fail.
August 25, 2009 at 12:46 am
Oh I forgot to mention, with this game is overdue and way past late for me. This game was just an afterthought for EA, they knew it and blew it. The fixes while needed just isnt enough for me to consider ever buying this game in the future.
August 25, 2009 at 12:48 am
Terrible job on the patch considering the community made it clear progression and auto subs were key to be fixed.
August 25, 2009 at 12:56 am
Is this the last patch were gonna get?
August 25, 2009 at 1:54 pm
More than likely yes. It seems over the last couple years EA will release two patches and whatever isn't addressed or fixed in those patches will have to wait until the following year's release…or so we hope, see: non-working sliders NCAA 09 and 10.
August 25, 2009 at 2:26 pm
More than likely yes. The past several years it seems EA has released two patches and the rest is left to be worked on for inclusion in the next year's version. I say that tongue in cheek, see: NCAA 09 slider issue still in release of NCAA 10.
August 25, 2009 at 2:28 pm
Removed, double post.
August 25, 2009 at 2:29 pm
sorry, double post.
August 24, 2009 at 6:11 pm
Ok…so…No progression fix? LoL…Man, EA is just continuously dropping the ball. NCAA & Madden…the only 2 games I really play this time of year, as I’m a big sports fan…and they can’t provide a working product. And, because of the deals EA cuts…we don’t have any other options. Smart business people those A-holes at EA…but their ethics blow. Too bad the BBB doesn’t come down on them…
August 25, 2009 at 5:17 pm
The lack of options has less to do with EA and more to do with the NCAA and the NFL. These two entities put their license up for bid so if it wasn't EA it would have been another publisher.
Also, what does the BBB have to do with anything? I personally think the games aren't as bad as people make them seem. Yes, the games have faults but not to the point where they aren't playable.
This comment isn't targeted at you directly but I get tired of reading people cry about this and about that. I grew up playing games and have seen the evolution of the gameplay and graphics. I will take what is offered over anything ever released. People's expectations have become ludicrous. Don't get me wrong, I have a wish list and things I would like to see addressed but not to the point of getting derogatory towards EA or any other publisher. It's simple — Don't like EA, stop buying the games.
August 25, 2009 at 1:28 am
damn… i didn't know the game was so screwed up…
will the patch be seamless into online dynasties?
or would one have to restart the dynasty to get the changes…
August 25, 2009 at 3:05 am
This is how EA rolls, now! Since mr. Moore has come on board and pushed this DLC crap… that's what EAsports has turned into, CRAP. Selling broken game after broken game, right out of the box. Why are we (consumers) letting this happen? this latest list of 20+ fixes goes to show us what half-@ss work was done in NCAA10, or is this NCAA 09? Last year, they threw out NBA LIVE 09 gave us 2-3 updates, and then p!ssed-off, and left us with garbage. What's next? Sell me the script (NCAA13)then, give me the graphics and gameplay as DLC! EASPORTS get your act together, consumers are starting to figure you out.
August 25, 2009 at 3:52 am
Pasta or anyone, what is the best named roster out there to get on EA Locker?
August 25, 2009 at 1:13 pm
I think there is only one out for each system…..
August 25, 2009 at 2:01 pm
RomanCaesar has the best one for 360. Completely AWESOME! They even did equipment changes. Very very very well done. They put a ton of time into this. If you are playing on the ps3 use the one put out by Tovarich999. Hope this helps.
August 25, 2009 at 3:53 am
For the PS3 sorry I forgot to add that on the previous post
August 25, 2009 at 4:30 am
Um, yeah… I'm excited…
Look, you can fix all the little picky things about a pile of dog shit, but look down EA… It's still a pile of dog shit.
Why in the universe does EA wait until the damn game's released to actually work on it? Maybe WalMart was having a sale on lawn chairs or something…
No more for me thanks. Never playing NCAA again… This ship has sailed.
August 25, 2009 at 4:30 am
Oooooohhhh, the whiners. Be glad that they can go back and patch the game but truth be told, I am wondering if EA's sports game engines may be a bit too antiquated. I still enjoy Madden and NCAA 10, regardless of the flaws. NO game is perfect and the games are VERY playable. People act like we're in the stone ages of video gaming. Maybe that's the prob – Young heads aren't appreciative of what console gaming has come from to get where it is now.
August 25, 2009 at 2:07 pm
Be glad they can go back and patch the game?? That's part of the problem with EA and many gamers ourselves.
When has it ever been acceptable to release an unfinished product with a promise — or hope — to fix it later? Would you buy a car with the manufacturer saying here drive this around and no promises, but we'll look into fixing anything that doesn't work at a later date? If you buy a television from your local electronics store and it doesn't work when you get home, you don't wait for them to send you parts or hope for them to fix it, you take it back.
Maybe I'm in the minority, but as consumers of EA products, many of you loyal at that, I just don't think releasing a game and "patching" it should be the norm.
August 25, 2009 at 5:01 pm
100% AGREED! Well said!
August 25, 2009 at 6:23 pm
ok can u pleaaaasssssee shut up u sound so damn dumb every single game that comes out gets updated. Also how can u compare a car to a video game a car is a way bigger investment than a video game so u should really shut up cuz u sound retarded. I dont see anything wrong with fixing a games problems. Patches are great because they listen to the community and fix what is wrong with the game before u would have to wait until the next game comes out to see changes. RETARD
August 26, 2009 at 6:23 am
LIONSFANLOL – U understand. The problem with "young minded" people is that they don't have the brain capacity, yet, if they ever get it, to understand the broader spectrum. Video games have had glitches and flaws since their inception….oh, but wait, this goes back to my point about NOT understanding about what video games used to be to what they are now not to mention PC games have had patching since forever.
Get a clue 65South and Josh
August 24, 2009 at 9:57 pm
wow so many fixes im glad i didnt buy this piece of shit game, madden 10 is great, CUTLER CAN WALK ON WATER!!!!!!!!
August 25, 2009 at 5:23 am
dont like when they tune gameplay after the game was released should just done progression and subsantial things like that hate when they touch gameplay after the games been out for almost two months. but I do like the glitch where if CPU no huddles I get called for Offsides cause the QB hikes it fast
August 25, 2009 at 5:33 am
When will NCAA look like madden now?
August 25, 2009 at 2:09 pm
NCAA 11 will be the college version of Madden 10.
August 25, 2009 at 7:42 pm
ok then what do you call ncaa 10 cause it sure dont look like maden 09!
August 25, 2009 at 6:32 am
TreyIM2, you must have very low standards my friend, plus the only thing worse than a whiner is a person who whines about them. I'm a game dev student and you have to realize, these days games are held to a different standard than galaga or pac-man. With video game development becoming an art similar to making a film you don't do the kind of stuff EA has. You can call people whiners but when it comes down to it they just don't want any excuses for the list of things that a company must patch. The size of this list speaks facts, you can't deny it.
August 26, 2009 at 6:31 am
Dude, you have NO clue what my standards are and what I do for a living. I am in IT so I am very familiar with programming and much of computer related things. Plus as a "game dev student" how much do you know about everything that goes into making a video game, as a whole, company wide, my friend, where there are deadlines, schedules and dev cycles?? See, if you understand what these guys are up against every year when you have to release an iteration of a game EVERY YEAR, then come talk to me. Love how so many of you think you know everything and then a person like your silly ass has the stupidity to call ME a whiner for telling little girls like u to man up and see the bigger picture. The whiners usually have most of the mouth when someone pulls their skirt up. Use your mouth for what u do best, my friend, not talk.
August 24, 2009 at 11:37 pm
why isnt there a patch for Florida’s Defense forcing 12 fumbles a game? Its not fair 2 play vs them. I used them and forced my friend (heisman difficulty) 10 fumbles in 1st half of a game…
August 25, 2009 at 7:27 am
The list says it all about this game. Total dissapointment. Ncaa 10 football is going down and im sure the money grabbing people at Ncaa is taking notice. New development team or time to let someone else take a crack at it.

GUY WHO COMPLAINS about double #'s in NCAA FOOTBALL is a retord (hangover style) there are 1000 people on an NCAA football roster….seeing to people with the same # is a regular thing, every year USC has 2 good players with the same number….this year i think its TAYLOR MAYS and CJ GABLE
August 25, 2009 at 12:12 pm
ok, so are you saying you have free number editing? or are you just a dumbass?
August 25, 2009 at 12:45 pm
bitch listen up, i know you are slow so let me break it down for you. i know that when the games ships you will get a couple of players that do have the same number, but when the rooks change their number to something that someone already has you cant use the same number. get of the hangovers nutz bitch. your just the voice of the homo.
September 4, 2009 at 11:20 pm
you can have duplicate numbers…one on offense and one on defense….and the players with the same # can't be on the field at the same time..i.e. taylor mays and cj gable can't both play kick return. it's always been that way.
August 25, 2009 at 2:10 pm
This just may be the straw that broke the camels back. With this many issues plaguing the game not too many people may buy it next year unless some serious changes are dealt and the current game is overhauled.
August 25, 2009 at 2:18 pm
The size of this list speaks volumes. Although some fixes sound good, it's too little too late for me.
A weak initial offering and a $40 trade-in investment had me so ready to get rid of a game that I play every year more than anything else I own in the quickest way possible. A huge, huge step for me, someone who hadn't purchased a Madden title in over 5 years.
August 25, 2009 at 7:43 pm
I should have know also when i popped open the game and saw that 40 dollar trade in something was up!!!
August 25, 2009 at 3:31 pm
fuck ncaa get that madden patch out NOWWWWWWWWWWWWWW i lost too many games cuz of holding on stupid plays. come on who holds on field goals
August 25, 2009 at 3:47 pm
i do trick bitch
August 25, 2009 at 4:53 pm
It doesnt matter. Its too late to salvage that game. That put the madden10 features in just to say that they have but they didnt tune them at all. Its very lackluster and lazy on the devs part. I'm never playing ncaa10 again. Madden10 FTW!!
August 25, 2009 at 4:54 pm

August 25, 2009 at 12:01 pm
Wow, does anyone not see this as a major problem with games (specially sports games) today. It’s a pay me now and play later mentality with these gaming companies. Should u really have to pay full price for game only to have to wait a month to play it without ridiculous bugs that shouldn’t have been there in the first place?
I hate the fact that we’re always talking about patches when a game is releases…WTF? Patches aren’t supposed to part of the game production, they should be to adjust minor glitches not revamp a game. How it sucks to be a football gaming fan today.
August 25, 2009 at 7:24 pm
agreed, patches should not be part of game production.
August 25, 2009 at 7:39 pm
Pasta when is a patch for madden going to come out?? They have the same problem with lineman just going by a defender in stead of blocking them and db's continously stepping in front of wr's like they are helpless and i keep getting false starts even in my own stadium!
August 26, 2009 at 2:20 am
I think the first one, which will deal with many of the minor issues people have pointed out, will probably be out within the next two weeks or so. The second one will be focused on community input and tuning once that is out, but I think the first will probably be significant since they held off on putting it out to get as much in as possible.
August 25, 2009 at 8:55 pm
IF ANYBODY'S INTERESTED THERE'S A 20 MINUTE VIDEO OF LIVE 10 GAMEPLAY ON THESPORTSGAMEGUY.COM.
August 25, 2009 at 8:59 pm
Wow! The same people that complain about all the fixes are the same people that would be complaining if they didn't do anything. Get a life people. No game is perfect. And if you haven't realized it by now, no NCAA or Madden game will ever be perfect, but to flame a company that puts out two of the most popular sports games year after year is just pointless.
Get over it. They are games folks. They're not supposed to change your life. And if you don't like EA, stop buying their products. Constantly complaining in message boards just gets old. Big bother is not out to get you! EA does strive to make good games or they wouldn't be in the business, since they lost a ton of money last year. So get over it. Move on to Madden, complain about it for a few weeks, then move on to the next game your going to complain about because it's not perfect.
August 26, 2009 at 6:21 am
Hey its Mr. Moore everybody! See this is what makes America great. We have the right to complain when we spend our hard earned money on something. Unlike in China if you complaim you go to jail or get beaten or blocked from the internet. Yes no game will be perfect and there has never been such a game that has been perfect. We the comsumer just asks that minor problems that shouldnt be in the game be fixed before we buy the game and perfection should be strived for not sitting on there hands. So my communist friend if you dont like hearing people complain on here you should relocate to a blog in fron china, russia or even iran perhaps
August 25, 2009 at 9:58 pm
For some reason everywhere i read to get the PS3 patch all u do is start upo the game and it asks for u to donload… well ive started it up numerous times loggin me online when i get on the game and its never asked me. someone please tell me wut to do so i can get the patches. thanks!
August 26, 2009 at 1:35 am
"The patch is expected to be out soon but no official date has been specified as of yet."
When it is released, all you need to do is be connected to the internet with your console and you will be prompted to download it then.

NOT SURE IF IT WAS MENTIONED, BUT QB QUIZ IS OFF A LOT! THE PLAY THE DEFENSE RAN DOES NOT COME UP IN THE QUIZ AFTER YOU'VE THROWN AN INT.
August 29, 2009 at 4:34 am
just fix the cpu intelligence. the same plays over and over are really a bitch to have to user pick everything. wish they would make the corners more intelligent…. easily the most flawed pass defense in the ncaa franchise thus far imo.
September 4, 2009 at 10:29 pm
over the past few days i've been having a problem with zone defenses. when i call a zone and view the play b4 the snap, it shows everyone who is playing a hook/curl zone to be playing that zone at the line of scrimmage and when the ball is snapped that is what they do. they immediately run to the line of scrimmage and play their zone there. if i hot route someone to play a hook/curl zone, they do the same thing. does anyone know why?
