MLB 10: The Show Demoed in 3D

The first gameplay video of MLB 10: The Show came out of CES late last week. Being demoed at the same event were Sony prototype 3D TVs with a handful of their games including The Show. Obviously this video isn’t going to display itself in 3D but it does offer an opportunity to get a look at it in action and listen to the comments of those in the room.

It’s clear that this is a technology that will be integrated into games in the coming years as consumers adapt 3D capable TVs. What interest would you have in playing sports games in 3D and which ones do you feel would be best suited for it?  Continue on to watch the video and leave your thoughts in the comments!

3D is definitely the future of movies and video games. After seeing Avatar in 3D it was obvious about the possibilities. I think most games will look great in 3D if done right. I think that is the key, it has to be done right. But EA and 2K probably should just stick to 2D games for now since they can't seem to get the current 2D games right. I can see EA and 2K f-ing it up right now, with their bogus typical marketing saying their game is in 3D, but when ppl buy the game it's more like 2D.5. But a company who has it right and always had it right, like Epic, probably would do a great Gears of War 3D….I cannot even imagine playing horde in 3D online. I probably never go to work. lol

3D is a fad to get people back in the movies. It is not the future. Its old tech.

    • Jonathon

      i agree completely…

but don't you want to spend MORE money?!

It's about time someone else acknowledge that 3-D is old tech. They use to show 3-D movies in the 50's LOL. Lack of ticket sales forced movie companies to figure out a way to raise ticket prices and now lo & behold 3-D has come back in full force as if it was a brand new invention. I don't mind looking at a movie once a month in 3-D for 2-3 hours with those goofy glasses but to sit at home & play video games with them on is just a bit too much for me.

      • Ken

You really think they're just going to use the same crap glasses they use in movie theatres? You shouldn't even be posting. Use your brain and watch the video.

But you have never been able to get a television with a 3d emitter like you can now. Just got a 65" thats 3d ready and i cant wait to have a game to try it out.

3-D is going to be huge. Everyone who thinks it is a fad isn't looking at it the right way. Imagine playing Call Of Duty and you are hiding behind a rock and bullets are flying past your head. A bomb explodes and the flames engulf you. When someone tries to stab you it looks like they are coming at you.

Sports games might not be as cool but 3-D gaming is going to be sick.

Also, does anyone know how to check if your TV is 3-D compatible?

    • http://intensedebate.com/people/Skihawks Skihawks

I agree. 3D, itself, is old tech but the new tech is going to take 3D into a modernized direction. No more red / blue lenses in the glasses and TV's that actually support this technology opens the world to numerous possibilities….Video games are about immersion and 3D games, if done right, will enhance that immersion….

    • IM @ YA MOMZZ HOUSE

lol look. this all sounds fun but REALLY. Imagine yourself HIDING BEHIND YOUR COUCH, LITERALLY. We'll all look like retarded psychos.

I don't get why these tech morons post videos online of 3D taken with a 2D camera for peoples 2D computer screens.

    GENIUS

You are not going to see how it looks in 3D unless you are there.

    • Ken

It's just so you can get a little glimpse at technology hater. Nobody forced you to watch the video.

  • Keith.

I can't wait for 3D The Show. Puts the pressure on Madden, NBA2K, NHL, etc. to do the same.

Can only imagine how cool it would be to drop down as the catcher in 3D, to look out past the hitter at the pitcher, the outfield scoreboard, when I'm playing the scrubs in Wrigley with the Cards — looking out at the ivy covered walls.

From someone who's been around since the old days, I don't see how anyone could not be excited. Unless they just don't like change.

I only want games to look as they do during actual broadcasts. Until thats 3D, I dont want video games in 3D

    • Ken

So you'd rather have a game that looks like your watching tv..than a game that looks like your watching court side? Get serious.

why would u be hiding behind your couch? its not virtual reality its 3d, youll still be sitting lol

    • ACREYMAN

From what I understand the new tech does not cause the 3D headache like the old shit used too. The old stuff was bad after about 20-30 mins. The new stuff is digitaly coordinated and its just like your watching without the 3D glasses cause your eyes dont know the difference.

      • TreyIM2

Yea, I agree but I have to admit, watching Avatar in 3D (actually, the 3D trailers did), initially, gave me a "slight" headache for a bit or so til my eyes and brains adjusted to what was on the screen.
I remember watching Jaws 3D in the movies as a kid and was like, "WTF is this garbarge?" but the updated version of the tech is more like, "WTF????!!! AMAZING!!!"

Saying "3D is an old fad" is a bit pre-mature. The fact now is that we have the technology to do true 3D, unlike in the past.
