MLB 2K10 Demo Now Available (360)

by
Posted February 23rd, 2010 at 1:43 am

The demo for MLB 2K10 has arrived on the Xbox 360 Marketplace. It features a three inning rematch of the World Series with the Philadelphia Phillies @ New York Yankees. There is no commentary and no option to change settings such as difficulty or adjust camera angles. The demo for the PS3 will not be available until March 4th.

Considering there is just one week to go and only a single inning of gameplay footage out there this demo carries with it a great deal of importance. I will have gameplay videos and impressions up this evening along with posting some thoughts on Twitter throughout the day (already posted quite a bit). You can also check out the comparison trailer I got up late last night. Of course in the meantime feel free to leave your thoughts on the demo in the comments!

NBA 2k10 sucks??? WHAT THE FUCK IS WRONG WITH YOU DUMBASS! NBA2k10 is amazing! you are on crack..

But MLB 2k10 really sucks.. My cousin has the show and it rapes this game, but to say nba 2k10 sucks, there is something wrong with you.

  • Good One

Why can't more people be like deepen03 ? He calls a spade a spade. He doesn't blindly defend 2K Sports. He sees each game individually and doesn't judge a game based on who made it.

  • BU1B22

sounds like a show fanboy…so confident in yur game

  • IOIO

not to mention read the rules. theyre making it so even people who throw perfect games will be disqualified because they didnt do something like start recording the video before turning on their tv.

  • Bob

I find it interesting that when The Show’s demo was scheduled to come out before 2K everybody praised The Show and criticized 2K saying that they must have something to hide. Now here we are with 2K front and center and The Show still in limbo. Which goes back to my point the media has low standards for things that appease them and high standards for things that despise them.

“Definitely seems easy to hit. I know part of that is the difficulty setting, but its pretty clear they were going for accessibility this year…..Oh boy…the ease of hitting is discouraging”-Pasta

When people are looking to fault finding this is how they go about bringing information. Just look at the reviews for Halo, MW2 even movies such as Avatar. The media pumped up these games and movies even though though there were better alternatives. Killzone got destroyed by the media but it’s better than Halo, MW2 played like COD4 with new levels and Avatar was Hollywood’s baby yet stole all of it’s material from FernGully The Last Rain forest. I don’t know if it’s kickbacks, if it shock journalism or just plain ignorance but the media has made a dramatic shift from delivering facts and moved into National Enquirer territory and promoting negative one sided ideas.

    MLB 2K ALL DAY!

I’m have no problem with the whole “media standards” issue. I get that and I see exactly what you are saying.

But when it comes to the demos for both 2K10 and The Show, I have to comment.

The Show has been a consistent, quality product for a few years now. People with Sony consoles know this and really don’t need a demo to confirm their beliefs.

On the other side, the MLB 2K series has been in a state of uncertainty for a few years. MLB 2K6 on next-gen systems was terrible. 2K7 was a pleasant surprise. Then, 2K8 and its slow framerate and bugs surfaced. 2K9 followed and it was hard to believe they could make the game any worse than 2K8. So a solid demo for 2K10 is a must.

In other words, getting a solid demo out quickly is much more important for 2K than for SCEA.

    • LMFAO

seriously bro THE F*CK are u talking about? u went from Baseball to Halo to Killzone to Ferngully and back to Baseball seriously dude THE F*CK

    • Bob = Douche

You’re an incredible douche bag, Bob. The Show’s demo will probably be out this Thursday anyway. Plus, we don’t need a demo. We know that when we drop 60 bucks for MLB 10, we’re gonna get more than our money’s worth over time. There’s not many people that will say that about MLB 2K, Bob.. Besides you, Bob..

  • lolwat

Sounds like a 2K fanboy… knowing his game is inferior.

  • Anonymous

Only a demo – BUT – easily a more refined baseball experience. If the actual game releases bug free it may be a nice baseball game for 360 players. BTW – can we all move beyond “2K sucks” as a critical review? That goes for “Madden sucks”, “NBA Live sucks” as well. Anyone viewing these message boards would think gamers were a bunch social misfits who got left behind a few years in grade school

  • Erich

played the demo a couple times, game is terrible. not as sloppy as 2k9 but a bunch of ai problems, graphics are disappointing, homerun fest

  • Anonymous

    this thing is freakin awesome

  • IOIO

damn some people have some massively low standards if they think this demo is good.

    • Anonymous

      Care to elaborate?

  • Amen Ra

LOL Got to love that fire!!!! No, but seriously I a lot of people complained about NBA2k10 and the glitches and isht, but even with that they were 10x better than Live. Now in Baseball they are obviously far behind, but you have to start somewhere right man?

I still think it's funny how one programmer/designer or whatever moves to NBA Live from 2K and everyone says “Oh shit it's the rebirth of Live!!!” but they think that same logic is absurd when it applies to 2K games shifting VC to it's baseball division. this the type of rampant favoritism that is killing honest reporting on games.

I don't have an XB0X, so I don't have much reason to play MLB2K10 but damn, give the game an honest chance before trying to destroy it.

  • ur a loser

honestly pasta your a disgrace. how can you claim to be a sports gaming site but your that biased against 2k. i played 4 games and hit 1 homerun. hitting is ten times better and the graphics are amazing compared to last year. the game is gonna be great. PERIOD

  • MLB 2K10 THE BLOW

I think the batting camera makes the game waaaaayyyy too easy. Also i dnt like the arcade feel of the game. Overall the game is actually a little fun this year im just not feelin the visuals and the simplistic gameplay all that much. I give the demo 6/10 in my opinion this game would be a great rental or a $30 purchase its not worth $60 so im sticking with the show. Some people will like this game tho

  • Anonymous

Yea from the videos i watched I had a few problems… Tall batters defintaley get head chopped off from scoreboard, etc very annoying, also i hope u cant see what pitchers throws on every pitch, and last but not least, Steve Phillips was talking while a pitch was being thrown about 40% of the video – thats also very annoying. I really hope this can get fixed somehow, they seem to just be common sense flaws in the game, someone should realize them and Fix them !!!

  • Sean O

    It's “you're.”

I really like this game, reminds me of MVP 05 somewhat, hopefully the full version will be even more pleasing and after the 2nd patch we have ourselves a game in the 8 range. Looks like a winner 2K.

  • http://pastapadre.com/ pastapadre

Are you seriously suggesting that I'm lying about hitting on average a homerun per inning? I don't even consider myself to be great at the game or anything but I'm finding it easy. The full demo video I'm working on getting up is one of the first ones I played and has three of them I think. Utley went 2-2, 2HR, 3RBI.

  • Amen Ra

Could just be random though Pasta. There are games in baseball where many homeruns are hit. Perhaps you should have played a few times before making the comments because you know the 2K lovers are going to be laying in wait for yo ass muahahahaha

  • Anonymous

Just played it…..basically its MLB 2K9 cleaned up. It has better lighting and smoother framerates but the oh so famous robotic 2K stiff transistion animations will rear their heads throughtout the game to remind you that it just lacks the overall natural and lifelike feel of MLB The Show.

Sure if you have an Xbox, then perhaps this years game will give you a fundamentally correct game of baseball without forcing you to throw your controller thru your TV ….but if that is setting the bar high for 2K than its a sad day for baseball fans across the country.

This game simply doesnt have all the extra nuances, depth and subtle touches that really elevate a game to a masterpiece.

Congratulations 2k, you finally just eclipsed High Heat’s gameplay from 2004, maybe this is just cause for celebration. Perhaps your bar wasnt set much higher than your previous game, 2K9.

While I cannot say this is bad game for Xbox owners, I just don’t think exceeding last year’s efforts is going to cut it for PS3 owners when there is a much better, more representative simulation of the sport already out on the market.

Just played the demo for 2K10 on 360. I will say much better than last year…but overall…..Garbage. And I’m sure that most of you who love 2K have never really truely played The Show…cause if you had…you would realize you have no arguement.

    • IOIO

i think the people who seem satisfied by this demo dont have the show to compare it to. good for them if they enjoy it, but there is such a big gap in quality that people who play the show are going to dislike this demo for obvious reasons

      • Anonymous

I am well aware that The Show is the better game, but alas, I only have an XBox, so I have no choice. That is why I want to see MLB 2k10 be a good game.

  • http://twitter.com/deepen03 deepen03

too bad its only for xbox live gold right now. And reading these comments below, looks like i’ll sit out a baseball game this year. not worth 60 bucks IMO. I just traded in Madden 10 and COD MW2 and I have $50 on my EDGE card at Gamestop. No way in hell am I using it on MLB 2k10 after seeing this.

    • Jamin

Don’t read these comments. Go to OS and read those comments, because they are actually insightful, unlike the fan-boy comments here.

  • http://pastapadre.com/ pastapadre

I've played about 6 full demos and I'm consistently seeing these results. It isn't like I'm going to get worse at hitting the more I play, if anything I'm going to get better. I know the circumstances are a factor (difficulty setting, power heavy lineups) but that is what we have to judge off right now.

  • Henry L

Learn some reading skills, the guy was complaining about them not including commentary in the demo version. You just wrote several paragraphs in response to no one

  • Funkymunky

Jesus fucking christ, Bob. The guy is just trying to demo the game, and tell us how it is.
If you think he's lying to us, over a demo, you have a problem.
Read a book and learn how to spell, you oblivious 11 year old.

  • rob

Sounds like a couple of nerd fanboys calling it their game.

  • Anonymous

Overall, it does seem like 2K10 is at least moving forward. The lighting looks great, and most of the animations seem to be smoothed out. Overall though, the player models still move like they are robots, and twice so far I’ve run into horrible AI.

Playing 2K9 was like getting hit with a hammer to the face. 2K10 is like getting hit with a hammer on your fingers. It still hurts, but not as much as it could have.

  • lonnie

please stick to basketball 2k…thank god for the show

  • The Albatross

Take this as a lesson Pasta: Don't post any 2K impressions unless they are positive. Or else you'll get scores of people freaking out about how biased you are.

  • Anthony

After playing the demo a couple times, someone is going to throw a perfect game right off the bat… Also, hitting is terrible, I was so used to playing on Legend in 2k9 that I am way off when it comes to timing for 2k10. Overall, I’m not overly impressed, but it’s an upgrade from last year… with the inclusion of MLB Today, the be a player mode, and ironed out gameplay vs last years game I’ll be happy and able to play it. Being a 360 owner this is the only way I can get my baseball fix and I’ll be purchasing it.

Has anyone heard anything on how they’re going to implement check swing via patch? I’m really hoping its down on the right stick like last year and not with a button/trigger.

  • Babe Ruth

It sounds like you're all fan boys who love sucking on cock playing baseball games in your moms basement while other people actually have jobs. It's just a game like really get over it you're supposed to have fun not fight over them because if you fight over them you look like a complete queer who has no life what so ever, so everyone needs to take a fuckin chill pill and settle down its just a fuckin baseball game like fucking seriously, its funny how you all think you're so fucking cool fighting over games, how do you live with yourselves?

  • Jamin

Pasta, you really need to monitor your site. It’s okay to come on here and say you don’t like the game, but it’s ridiculous to come on here and say 2k sucks without any reasoning why you dislike the game. This site is full of mlb the show fan-boys, when you do baseball articles. How about play the demo, or better yet the full game before making false statements or just repeating what other people say. People are so quick to praise Sony, and than put down 2k. If you don’t like the game, don’t play it and no one wants to hear you go on about how bad mlb 2k is. 360 only owners don’t want to hear it.

    • Anonymous

Agreed…a lot of the comments here are just arguing for arguments sake. And that goes for both sides. At least I and some other commenters try to bring some actual substance to the discussion. But a lot of it is just “2K or The Show sucks!!!!”

Anyway, I am hoping for a situation much like the NFL games back in 2004, where Madden and NFL 2K were at the top of their games. If The Show and 2K10 can both make each other better, all sports gamers should be thrilled.

    • matt colby

Maybe you should monitor your pointless posts. First of all, 2K has sucked the past couple of years and there’s no debating that. Just because someone only owns a 360 and can’t buy a superior product in The Show doesn’t change the fact that it’s been superior in every way.

And this site is full of MLB; The Show fanboys because it’s only one of the best sports games ever produced. Is it flawless? No. Every game has it’s flaws. But if you had a chance to play it, you’d see why so many people praise it.

And no one who knocks 2K for its past games are making false statements. Even the developers themselves knock themselves for their past efforts (see most recent video). The fact that they have to be excited because outfielders actually catch balls now is pretty ridiculous.

And this is a site that reports and gives impressions of games. Just because you have no choice and have to buy 2K every year doesn’t mean everyone has to turn the other way and not comment on how much better The Show has been for the past couple of years. I’m sure there are people who have both systems that would be thankful for the information so they don’t waste $60 on 2K baseball. Just because the facts don’t make you happy doesn’t mean it doesn’t need to be reported.

And I agree, 2K getting better helps everyone. And I hope it does. But so far it hasn’t even come close, and that’s all we have to go on right now.

      • Jamin

I have an idea. I’ll just stop coming to this sight, since I get the same info at Operations sports. Enjoy bashing 2k every chance you get.

      • lonnie

        amen to that!

    • gobengals

Personally I feel where you are coming from but you have to admit 2k dropped the ball last year with mlb 2k9 so much so that they made a video comparing 2k9 and 2k10 to each other. They admitted last year was a mistake and it didnt go through enough development time. I own both systems and I preferably dont like the show because its straight boring to me, ive always gone with 2k baseball games because they offer more excitement and dont use the boring “realistic gameplay” that the show uses. Show fanboys seems to forget that mlb 09 the show was patched frequently last year due to it having its share of problems as well. (rtts freezing on certain positions) Most of the time these guys/girls just come on here to irk people nerves to the point that they respond and it only makes them feel better. Half of these dudes do not even know how to review games, all they do is pop it in and see the “GREAT GRAPHICS” and call the game a success when the gameplay suffers. So please dont take it personally with those guys they just like to get on peoples nerves

  • Bob Jr.

Demo isnt terrible but there were some things I noticed. For one, the numbers on the jerseys are huge, the game looks a bit arcadey, and why does the ball sound like a bowling ball when it bounces?

  • http://pastapadre.com/ pastapadre

It comes with the territory. Whether I like something or dislike it someone will be offended. I was criticized last year for speaking out against 2K9 (believe it or not) so I'm used to it :)

  • T. Daley

    T. Daley is the biggest twat on the internet. He will never get a girlfriend or get laid in his lifetime.

That is all. Thank you for your time.

  • blinkfan77

Played it, and I’m still not a huge fan. This game just doesn’t “feel” right. Nor does it look very good. The animations are kind of off, the player models are terrible, the helmets and jerseys are a joke. The brightness and texture of the game and the backgrounds/parks looks good, but that’s about it.

And that’s not even mentioning the gameplay. Hitting is boring. Fielding is terrible sans the throwing meter.

HOWEVER, the only thing I enjoy is pitching. It’s kind of fun. It’s a bit arcady and I still prefer The Show over every aspect of this game, but pitching is kind of fun.

  • Anonymous

i will personally get The Show, but for 360-only owners, 2k10 looks to be a good option this year. It may not be as clean as the show, but its definitely playable (unlike last year) and will be a solid title for baseball fans.

  • 22cowboys22

the problem for me is last year i loved the demo for 2k9, and the obviously a week after owning the game I WAS STUNNED, you guys know, ”top fielder in 217”, dropped fly balls, etc. So I am EXTREMELY hesitant to purchase.

  • Anonymous

I was really optimistic about this year’s game. This may come off as nit-picking but here are my goods / bads:

    GOODS
    1) The animations looked pretty smooth
    2) The ballpark looks huge
    3) Some of the presentation items are pretty good…I like the swing analyzer and the pitch track…
    4) The fielding camera angle is nice
    5) The throw meters…Wish The Show would adopt this

    BADS
    1) The uniforms are horrible…The numbers and logos are HUUUUUUGGGGEEE!!!
    2) The ball doesn’t rotate (fastballs look like knucklers)
    3) The clip when the hitter steps out of the box
    4) Players’ faces are atrocious….They look like zombies…No emotion and no upper eye lids
    5) The player models look jaggy like an original XBox game
    6) Hitting….mechanic….sucks
    7) No umpire emotion when ringing up a hitter…Actually, there isn’t a “ring up” animation 8) Ball and bat sounds are not very good…Sounds more like RBI 3 on the Genesis
    9) No momentum when fielders field a ball to the left or right…They stop on a dime…Not saying it isn’t plausible but it doesn’t look natural

Although the bads outweigh the goods, I think the game is an improvement over last year…Still not sure if it is worth a purchase…Maybe a rent.

  • The Albatross

I seriously can’t get enough of the people saying how this site, and OS, and other sites, are all biased towards MLB The Show. Guess what? We are biased. We are biased in favor of good games and biased against bad games.

  • cwoods

Well, played it and it looks good….very smooth animations and framerate…I will say that the fielding seems fast…it feels a lot better than last year…definitely gonna have to at least rent the game to get the full feel for it

  • Vegastwan

I Played last night for about 3 games.. and i just cant bring myself to like this game that much… that said it is the demo… and im still going to rent it… but from what i see… GRAPHICS ARE UNBAREABLE… i mean seiously most of the players i cant even reconize who they are… Derek Jeter, A-rod… etc… they look nothing like themself… its scarry how bad it is…. not impressed in that area…and honestly thats one of the top things i look for in a sports game… secondly im not so hot on the overall gameplay seems similar to last years demo… as far as homeruns go i hit only one in 3 games lol.. i found it kinda hard with the damn camera angle being so far from the pitcher and the hitter…. i hate hate hate the stick controls… why not just make the trigger botton the swing? hold for power or just press for a regular hit… i played 2k baseball on the dreamcast years ago and honestly it beat this by miles…..

  • http://www.facebook.com/sdiosy Scott Diosy

I actually liked the demo…Im shocked!

  • Dukefanblue2005

Couple of things that bugged me.

First off way to many homeruns. Hit back to back to back jacks.

Secondly, I cant remember which MLB 2k it was but every time you hit it up the middle the pitcher would stop it. I saw the same thing happen when I played the three inning demo. Hit the ball up the middle 3 times and the pitcher either quickly morphed and caught it or stopped it and threw me out.

These things have got to be fixed in order for me to be a customer. Improvement over last year but definately waiting to see what it gets rated.
