Madden NFL 12 Cover Art and Hall of Fame Edition Revealed

EA Sports today released the official cover art for Madden 12 and detailed a special edition of the game featuring Marshall Faulk on the cover. The “Hall of Fame Edition” will have a limited run of 125K copies and release on August 30th alongside the standard version of the game. Faulk – the Madden 2003 cover athlete – is being inducted into the Hall of Fame this year.

In the HOF Edition, you get the Premium bronze, foil embossed cover featuring Marshall Faulk, the Full version of Madden NFL 12, a hand autographed Marshal Faulk Panini Card, and an exclusive Madden Ultimate Team Platinum pack featuring a combination of 13 NFL Hall of Famers and former Madden NFL cover athletes. The Hall of Fame Edition will be available on August 30th for the retail price of $89.99.

Cleveland Browns running back Peyton Hillis won the cover tournament with ease defeating Michael Vick in the finals. The “Hall of Fame Edition” would seem to be more of a novelty than anything for an extra $30, though considering how much some spend on Ultimate Team mode those consumers may have some interest in the card pack. It’s still asking an awful lot without providing much value in the package. Three new screenshots of Faulk from Ultimate Team can be found in the gallery. Continue on to check out the box art for both the standard and HOF versions of the game and leave your thoughts in the comments!

YEA there crazy shits ugly as hell. The Peyton hills cover is hot though. Wish he was still a bronco :(

As a Chiefs fan, I’ve got to say I loved that trade.  Peyton Hillis AND a 2011 6th rounder AND a 2012 conditional pick for Brady Quinn.

God, I miss Josh McDaniels already.  Remember when he traded a first rounder to draft Alphonso Smith and then turned around and traded him for Will Heller?  That was fun…

I really am happy for you guys now that you’ve gone out and nabbed a better coach in John Fox, but I will definitely miss McHoodie.

Wait how can the Marshal Faulk autograph be “hand signed” if there are 125,000 copies of the hall of fame edition??

Fuck it.  Worst case senario…Buy the HOF Edition, if the cards are truly signed by Marshall Faulk, sell that fucker on Ebay and get your loot back.  But, I can’t.  Huge Browns fan, here.  Gotta get the Hillis cover.  GO BROWNS!

    • http://pastapadre.com/ pastapadre

If there are that many signed cards the value would be next to nothing if you tried to sell it. Wouldn’t even be worth the shipping costs.

That is incorrect.  Marshall Faulk all ready has autographed many more than 125,000 items in his career.  You are confusing the collectible football card market where 125,000 signed items is a massive run, with the autograph collectible market.  Autographs for elite players like Faulk hold an intrinsic value for the autograph alone.  For Faulk that price averages $30-$50 on the secondary market.

        • Anonymous

Why the hell would anyone buy it for $30 to $50 off E-Bay when they could just buy the damn game for an extra $30 bucks.  no one would buy the garbage without the game

Pasta any news with regards to if the cards are hand signed by Marshall Faulk.

I’m really really really considering that extra $ for a signed Marshall Faulk card, but I doubt it’s a real signed card and I also doubt if the value would be that extra 30 bucks?

        • http://www.facebook.com/profile.php?id=100000295534671 Jared Baxter

This shit is just a gimmick to get you dummies to pay $90+ for a $30 game.

          • Jimmiefisher86

It’s really 59.99 for the game.. Not 30 lol

  • Dymez

Ultimate Team cards and the same exact cover picture as Madden ’03 except in bronze isn’t enough for me to spend $30 extra for the game.  I’ll stick with the standard.

Now, if they did some cool shit like insert a Hall of Fame roster exclusively in these 125,000 copies…  Then we would have something here.

  • http://twitter.com/ajs41072 Anthony Suriano

you know what’s going to happen; people are going to have very similar Ultimate Teams from buying the HOF version and getting the same cards.

    • http://pastapadre.com/ pastapadre

But they’ll have to spend money to hang onto those cards. Which I’m sure is part of EA’s thinking on including them.

      • http://twitter.com/ajs41072 Anthony Suriano

true, the HOF cards will expire and they’ll have to buy those contract extenstion cards

          • HaloUnion

If you can read, I am trying to get votes to represent EA Sports, who if you did not know, makes sport games.  Doesn’t seem too irrelevant to ask for votes to represent EA Sports on an article about an EA Sports game……. K?

          • http://www.facebook.com/profile.php?id=100000295534671 Jared Baxter

Yes, it was irrelevant because this particular article is about the cover art for Madden 12. Not an open invitation for wannabe EA Sports representatives.

          • HaloUnion

Also, to win this campaign, I have to take it everywhere; here, youtube, and everywhere I can think of.  Not that you would know anything about winning a campaign.  The whole thing is to prove I can network and advertise myself out there.

But don’t you think that a cover with Hillis hurdling over the EASPORTS logo (with one foot just sticking over the label where it says Madden NFL 12) would’ve been cooler?!

  • Yourmother

EA has the worst ideas for selling games. At least give a bonus disc with the older games on it a trivia mode some kind of behind the scenes making of or something. MUT cards? Bronze Faulk cover? Maybe if it were 69.99

  • EA Lied to Me

$30 more for some stupid cards?  WTF?  It would be much better if they added classic Super Bowl Teams or different hall of fame teams that you could PLAY WITH.  EA yall gotta come better than that!  Highway robbery at its finest!

Unless Marshall Faulk is your hero in life and your father figure rapped in one, there is absolutely no reason to get the collector’s edition.

I for one am a huge Ram fan and the chances of getting the one 18K gold signed card are slim, but I want to take that risk because my team is recognized in the HOF edition and I would like a signed Marshall Faulk card. I don’t like Ultimate Team, so I may see if I can sell those or something. Probably the first and last time I wil ever buy it though haha. I can’t see anybody but Ultimate Team fans and Ram Fans buying this. And maybe the guy who is in on the racket where they are giving him one with the 18K gold card in it. Hahaha

A hand autographed Panini card? Did Marshall get that eating 10 Paninis at Panini Grill?

  • http://twitter.com/Starfoxleon The Great Leon

Last special cover I had was Ray Lewis. I don’t think they had the price that much higher.

    • http://pastapadre.com/ pastapadre

That collector’s edition included playable classic versions of Madden from the past, historical playoff teams with the uniforms from their time, a documentary, and even more. And it was only priced $10 over the standard version…not $30 like this one.

      • Guest

It used to also be alot easier to fit games onto a disc then before, and it’s also more expensive to mass produce the games, ship and such. This mini depression we’re having isnt just affecting us it, it raises all prices, despite them being rich.

        • Infemous

with Blu Ray discs they wouldn’t even need another disc, they just would have to use all of the memory on Blu Rays for once… although I really doubt many game developers beyond Rockstar would even consider that…

          ridiculous.

      • Infemous

        wow. Fuck EA that’s LAME.

No longer considering this extra deal, huge Rams fan and Marshall Faulk fan, but please, GTFO with that comparison.

EA trying to pray on the weak minded. Thanks for the info, may have been suckered into that and I don’t even play Ultimate Team

Am I the only one that thinks the Peyton Hillis cover is terrible? I don’t mean it is bad because he is on it, but it looks like they just slapped his picture down, and threw random splatters everywhere. It’s like they didn’t even try to make it look good. NCAA 12 cover is way better than this one.

    • http://www.facebook.com/people/Ryan-Gibson/622062514 Ryan Gibson

I think it looks quite nice. When I look at it closely, the artwork is really thought out well. The HOF version does look like a cut out Faulk, Photoshop emboss filter, colorized to bronze, and slapped on some quick gradients.

      • http://www.facebook.com/profile.php?id=100000295534671 Jared Baxter

The HOF is ugly, too. They should’ve picked a different color for the background or something. The bronze on black is tacky.

NCAA 12 is way worse, ok lets just slap on a cartoony picture on Mark Ingram stiff arming with some streak marks behind him.. Atleast Peyton looks life like in this.

No, the overall cover for NCAA 12 blows this one away. I’ve seen better covers on Sports Cover World. I just think they could’ve tried a little harder. Madden 11 even had a better cover.

Funny thing is, people will never realize how much EA is nickel and diming over some crappy editions to the game.  They know Madden is the big money maker so why not right?

Talk about your evil empire.  EA’s new logo should be:  EA SPORTS, IF IT’S IN THE GAME, YOU’RE GOING TO HAVE TO PAY MORE”.

  • http://twitter.com/AngryChiefsFan Brian Ayers

I have to believe they’re not happy with Hillis as the cover boy, so they rushed out this “Hall of Fame Edition” to get him off the cover of a few of the games. I’m also sure there are more than just 125k of them floating around out there. A month after release I’ll go into Best Buy and there will be 5 copies just sitting there taking up space.

  • http://www.facebook.com/profile.php?id=573365368 Jeffrey J Shelton

The Hall of Fame Edition is certainly worth $90.  Marshall Faulk autographed cards sell for more than $30.  If you buy the HOF edition and sell the card, you’ll get the Ultimate Team pack and the Faulk cover for free end up paying even less than retail for Madden 12.

Seriously, good luck trying to sell a Marshall Faulk “autographed card” for $30.  It’s bad enough were in recession, but you really think people will pay 30 for it?  Walter Payton’s rookie card could’ve fetched $1000 easily.  now, a mere $100.  $75 if you’re lucky.

With that being said, no, this “HOF” edition should’ve all been in the game already.  People keep paying for stupid stuff like this only gives companies like EA these bright ideas on nickel and diming all our hard earned money over things that should have been in the game.  I can do without the fancy cover thank you.

is it me or does it look like the Peyton Hillis cover was done in 45 minutes? They REALLY need to re-invent the cover art because it looks like a 45 minute photoshop job and really looks tacky.

Lets see some real artful covers for once!

PS. Marshall Faulk is a god, but unfortunately $30 bucks is a shit load of dollar and I’m not gonna spend that for something potentially printed by a machine.

Hall of Fame or Collector’s editions only make sense if they sell that version earlier than the normal version.  Madden 11 sold almost 700,000 copies on the 360 in the first week alone.  They sold only 175,000 in the second week.  Plenty of hardcore fans can’t wait to get their hands on the game and many go to great lengths to find an early copy and are willing to pay extra for it. Why not please those hardcore gamers by offering the HOF copy a week early and make more money at the same time?  Seems like a no brainer to me.

Give me a break EA… I paid the extra $10 for the Ray Lewis special edition because it had a TON of content, and the classic Maddens with current rosters sold me. $30 extra for next to nothing? Ridiculous. How about for an extra $30 you get an updated version of NFL Blitz? Something besides a crappy autograph.
