The news that the developers behind the Fight Night series would be taking over the new UFC franchise for EA Sports brought immediate mixed reaction. Certainly Fight Night is looked upon fondly for a number of reasons but veterans of the series also have a number of issues with the way it was handled over the years and those feelings will continue to linger.

Are you pleased by the revelation of this week or is it off-putting? Vote in the poll below – results and analysis will come next week – and always leave further thoughts in the comments!

I’m neither encouraged, or discouraged by this news.

I liked Fight Night: Champion, but didn’t love it. The story mode was a fantastic idea, but the execution was pretty flawed.

Knowing that it’s not being made by the EA Sports MMA team is a little discouraging, as that was a great first entry into the sport of MMA for EA (I wonder how many people that hated EA MMA actually played the full game, and not just the demo, because the demo was horrible, but the full game was excellent), but I imagine the Fight Night team will be using the EA MMA engine, so unless I hear differently, I won’t really think too much of it.

Either way, I’m excited to see how it turns out. THQ’s UFC games were good, but I’m looking forward to seeing another developer’s take on the sport.

The Fight Night team will ruin the UFC game, trust me.

Was a huge fan of EA MMA, hated the first two Undisputed entries, but must say I loved the third. The game had its flaws, like somewhat robotic striking and a poor submission mini game, but the depth was incredible. Really hoping EA taking over the series won’t diminish that aspect.

I’m actually extremely exited about this. EA MMA was a great representation of the sport. When UFC ’09 came out I was a ecstatic for an MMA game to finally come out on next gen system. I admit to being biased when I heard EA would realease an MMA game a few years ago. I also had(and still do have) bad blood with EA for half assing there Madden games and taking exclusive rights to it.

I eventually caved in and bought EA MMA and it completely changed my mind on MMA video games. They set the standard as far as simulation in an MMA video game. Was it perfect? Hell no. They had there flaws and some obvious things couldve been fixed but, the core gameplay was very good. A lot could have been done with that game in a sequel.

People rejected the game simply because it didn’t have the UFC plastered on it’s cover. It blew the UFC games out the water in my oppinion. The UFC games became very robotic to me personally. The third game fixed most of it’s problems but, it reached it’s peak. The game even after an extended period of development still didn’t look much different than 2010.

I always said that if EA could release a sequel to its MMA game that it would be great. No we are finally going to get one. I’m really exited for it and this was the biggest news I took coming of E3.
