Work towards a big screen adaptation of the Uncharted video game series continues to hit bumps in the road. The latest is that director Neil Burger, who was attached to the project after David O. Russell dropped out, has moved on. New writers have also entered the picture with Marianne and Cormac Wibberley who together wrote the National Treasure films are now working on the script for Uncharted: Drake’s Fortune.

Ironically O. Russell’s vision of what Uncharted would be sounded an awful lot like National Treasure – the problem is that story he had in mind didn’t represent Uncharted in the least. Mark Wahlberg was originally set to play the title character of Nathan Drake. He moved on when O. Russell did. Speculation was that Burger would bring in Bradley Cooper. It looks like that won’t be happening now either. Attention from fans will certainly again turn towards Nathan Fillion taking on the role.
