The Online Team Play update for the Xbox 360 version of NBA Live 08 was released earlier today. After a premature press release in mid-November and the PS3 version receiving the patch a few weeks ago, the 360 crowd has finally received the ability to play with up to 10 different consoles connected into a single game.

It certainly appears that it will have been worth the wait. Initial reports from the PS3 side have been very positive. There has also been overwhelming enthusiasm towards the OTP in FIFA 08.

Some of the details of Online Team Play:

-The game mode allows for any combination from 1 vs 1 up to 5 vs 5. It can be any combination not requiring the sides to be balanced.

-You can set it to be locked into individual players or you can allow for player switching. You’re only required to be locked into a player if you have four live teammates.

-The CPU will take over any players not being manually controlled.

-Voice communication is available and is isolated so that you are communicating only with your teammates.

I can’t believe it, it’s actually released. This is great. Would’ve never expected it on a Saturday.

It’s weird every time I try to play I can hear other people talk and yet two seconds into joining I get a message saying that a team has left the match, don’t know if I am the only one getting that. Hopefully, it will start to work for me later tonight I like the team play in FIFA so I am hoping that Live will be just as fun.

it should automatically update when you load the game up for the first time since the update has gone live.

Thankfully it started working for me yesterday and after playing about 5 or 6 games I have to say that team play is pretty good. I love playing as the center, I grabbed 27 rebounds and put in 20 points with Andrew Bynum. Only negative is that some people are allergic to passing, and sometimes what I saw was people just doing moves with the right stick to try and penetrate into the lane and going up for easy dunks.

Yeah, well I think OTP is more directed towards playing with people you know. You’ll at least get a more enjoyable experience that way in most cases.

I’d like to see them add a way for teammates to boot someone out. So if you had a guy, lets say playing PG, on your team who never passed and just dribbled around taking shots, then maybe 2 or 3 “votes” from teammates and that person is booted and the CPU takes over for them.

I’ll probably hop on tonight if anyone is on. I want to get some time in with it to post up impressions and ways to improve it.

Hopefully it shall make Live 08 Online play a little better…but for who? Few facts from vgchartz: in the States so far there are 485 000 NBA 2k8 offical owners, and only 194 000 NBA Live 08 buyers for xbox 360. 2k8 is 2,5 times more succesfull, and probably better. NBA Live 07 reached the top at 455 000 pieces. This years product is nearly the half of it.

Question for EA: What are the prognoses for Live 09, 80 000?

Question for Pasta: Why do not You take more care about 2k sports? Obviously people like it better, so more people would visit your site.

Just another dissappointed Nba Live fan
