Madden 09 Mock Draft Picks 1-2

There are certain types of players that are more valuable than others in Madden. There are also specific rookies or positions which would offer the most immediate help to a team in the game. I’ll be detailing some of those considerations throughout the Pastapadre Madden 09 Mock Draft.
Leading up to the actual NFL Draft on April 26th-27th I’ll be posting selections for each team in the first round on a semi-regular basis that represent the players who would be chosen to most help the team immediately and over the course of the season in the game.
To start it all off we have the first and second selections in the Madden 09 Mock Draft.
#1 Miami Dolphins - Jake Long - OT - Michigan
In most cases the highest rated rookie would seem the natural choice to go at the top. However the Dolphins don’t have as much need for Darren McFadden as they do for an offensive tackle. Ronnie Brown along with Ricky Williams makes up a solid backfield. A QB at the top of the draft for Madden would be tough to justify considering they generally get relatively lower ratings than other positions and have less playing time during the year to earn ratings boosts.
The Dolphins could use Jake Long immediately and he should come in with around an 84 rating. Last year the #3 pick Joe Thomas began as an 83. By the end of the year he was an 87 and probably should have been higher than that. So Jake Long could be solid right away and have the opportunity to improve in ratings as the year went along.
#2 St. Louis Rams - Chris Long - DE - Virginia
Again McFadden gets passed on as the Rams already have a great RB in Steven Jackson. The team was hit hard with injuries last year and otherwise wouldn’t have been nearly as bad. Offensive tackle would be a consideration as Orlando Pace has been injured a lot lately but Jake Long is already gone. Linebacker is an area of need but none would really be justified taking this high.
So that opens it up for Chris Long who should provide the Rams with some help pressuring the QB and decent run support from the position. Gaines Adams was #4 last year and began with an 84 rating and Chris Long would likely be rated around an 85. DE is a position that is reliable coming out of the draft for Madden.

you hit the nail right on the head with those picks ,but it could go either way with chris long going to miami and jake going to st. louis …..either or
I just SERIOUSLY hope the Rams don’t jump at McFadden. I’m not saying he would be as bad as Lawrence Phillips, but I think the Rams have learned their lesson taking “fringe” players. Jackson is a great player and a good guy and I hope he’s around for a long time. I was seriously saddened when the Rams let Bettis go for Phillips. They went on a 4 year slide after that.
Your right it would be stupid if either team took D-Mac. They both have good backs already and it would just bring unnecessary drama to each team if they did draft him. I could also see one of them taking Glen Dorset if his knee is ok.

Also, Chris Long has been projected as a guy that could play a D-Line/LB hybrid in the NFL. This just further justifies him going to the Rams.
Jets gotta get DMC!!! all the teams ahead of them have a feature back. While Thomas Jones is good, adding DMC would be what the Jets have lacked, a big play (20 yards+) playmaker. Raiders are the only team I think might do something stupid. they have 3 backs making like 16 mil between them already. J E T S Jets Jets Jets!
Man, I know you mentioned O-line players are being worked on for NCAA this year…but what about D-line? They all had guts last year and that was really “unsimlike” and one of the reasons I didn’t hang onto the game.

OI can agree with those two picks.b ut I Hops Chris Longs stomach is not that big :p
I just can’t agree with you on those picks. miami will be taking chris long. Parcells is a defensive guy and chris will be perfect for his 3-4 defense.

I lean toward Parcells going with DE Chris Long. Parcells has always got to be the “big fish” but Long is the “big catch” here.
However, the possibility of the 3-4 guru going with DE/LB Vernon Gholston is very high.
The Jason Taylor situation @ Miami is not stable, no matter what Parcells says. Is Taylor going into acting…..or dancing?
The Rams’ pick is probable……unless Chris Long is still on the board.
Pasta, as a Seattle guy myself, can you give me a little clue as to how you get such great in-game screenies? I thought I read in some thread that you figured out a way to do it via the sling box. Any insight is appreciated!

Chris Long’s belly is the first thing I noticed too. Here he looks more like Gilbert Brown.
idk about the Rams pick. They are high on Gohlston, both Longs and Dorsey (as of yesterday, his pro workout). I personally would like Gohlston on the end. I’d either trade down to get Gohlston or pick him there, at number two. btw, GO CARDS, BLUES and RAMS! lol.

Looks like a good call on this one so far, Pasta. Apparantly the Dolphins are contacting Jake. Of course there’s speculation that the Tuna is starting to play the top 4 prospects against each other. Which is entirely likely.

Looks like Pasta was right. I’m really excited about the pick. Jake Long at LT and Vernon Carey at RT (who played outstanding at RT in 06 before he was moved to the left) with Samson Satele in the middle. This line could be great for a long time and with Ronnie and Ricky in the backfield it could be a really exciting season this year.
