It took several weeks for Pro-Am to get up and running properly in NBA 2K16. The recent patch has fixed the primary issues - out on PS4 but Xbox One is still waiting on that - providing an opportunity to try it out in full for the first time. (more…)...

Last year with NBA Live 15, EA Sports was able to get the series back to a level of respectability. It still lagged far behind the competition in just about every aspect however and question remained on its viability in today's marketplace. For NBA Live 16 the company is going all-in with two new online modes, both of which fall under Live Pro-Am, and continued improvement to gameplay. Will that be enough when the rest of the game is essentially unchanged?  (more…)...

Madden NFL 16 offers up some intriguing additions and improvements on the field, with new receiver-defender interactions and controls, inaccuracy from quarterbacks, and more realistic penalties - plus the introduction of the brand new Draft Champions Mode. How are those things reconciled with what appears to be an especially buggy release for the series and disappointment with general presentation and Connected Franchise? All of that is examined and more in my reviews of the game which ha...

Madden NFL 16 has been out through EA Access since Wednesday, supplying ample time to have formed base impressions of the new game. After about 12 hours of play (over two different accounts) Rich Grisham joins me to discuss our thoughts on the game to this point. Areas covered include gameplay, penalties, Draft Champions, online play, the prologue, and bugs. This show will also be put out in podcast form later today and will be posted tomorrow! ...
  • NHL 16 EASHL beta impressions

The NHL 16 EA Sports Hockey League beta has now been open for a week - and it remains so through tomorrow - providing an unprecedented (for the sports gaming genre) glimpse at the game which isn't due out until mid-September. EASHL was a mode that I found very compelling when it launched in NHL 09, and played heavily that year and a few that followed. However beyond then interest waned as it went largely unchanged and took on a microtransaction slant in the upgrading of player ratings. ...

Rory McIlroy PGA Tour has been out since last Wednesday on EA Access, and officially releases tomorrow to all. In a video produced for Hit The Pass today, Rich Grisham and I review the game, going through everything from gameplay to Career Mode, online play, and even the Night Club Challenge. Beyond that, we also discuss expectations for what the future holds for the game in terms of post-release support. For those interested in written impressions of the game, make sure to check those out f...
  • Rory McIlroy PGA Tour Impressions

The inevitability of having to move on from Tiger Woods after such a long relationship put EA Sports in a position where they felt it necessary to take the rebooted PGA Tour series in a totally different direction. Rory McIlroy PGA Tour has aimed at appealing to a more "casual" consumer. Gone are healthy lineups of licensed courses and golfers, and nods to history of the sport. In their place are arcade-elements like fantasy courses and over-the-top mini-games. Over two years have passe...

The original Tap Sports Baseball, released last August, was undoubtedly one of the best sports games for mobile devices last year. It was a strong effort at launch with a (somewhat uncommon now) friendly monetization structure that was improved upon through several significant updates as the months wore on. The sequel released last week and it retains everything that made the first so great while introducing some minor improvements on top. Tap Sports Baseball 2015 is a turn-based game (o...
