Sony has released a trailer for NBA 08 on the Playstation 3. The SCEA franchise will follow up on NBA 07 which came out with the system launch. IGN also recently had an interview with the game’s producer.

As a first party developer, you would expect them to be pushing the capabilities of the system. Yet SCEA doesn’t seem to do that. The visuals on NBA 07, and the early visuals for 08, are sub-par. Even the much more highly regarded MLB 07: The Show has what most would consider “last-gen” graphics. Hey, but I’m sure they’ll be able to do some neat stuff with the sixaxis that no one wants.

Is there a more irrelvant sports game these days than Sony’s NBA offerings? I’m not sure how it ended up as the “the best selling basketball franchise on PS3”. How did NBA 2K7 not outsell it, especially with no NBA Live 07 PS3 version? I’ve still yet to meet anyone who plays Sony’s basketball title. In a world of three choices for NBA simulation games, this franchise comes in a distant last place. It doesn’t appear that is going to change any time soon.
