LA Times reports that Universal Studios is in talks with ‘Harold and Kumar’ writers Jon Hurwitz and Hayden Schlossberg, to script American Pie 4. The film would follow 2003’s American Wedding, and thankfully won’t have anything to do with the handful of DVD titles that have been released since then.

At least some of the cast is interested in coming back for the new picture, though sources emphasized that development is early and there are no actor deals in place.

Seann William Scott, Jason Biggs, Shannon Elizabeth and Alyson Hannigan were among the young comedic actors who got their break in the first film, which explored a group of high school seniors trying to lose their virginity before they left their adolescence behind.

Part of the success of the films fell on the characters. If they weren’t to make a return I’m not sure how good the movie would be. Also, just how many more bumbling idiotic scenarios can Jim (Jason Biggs) be put through as an adult? It does seem to work for Ben Stiller in all his movies though, so this could work. I do like the idea of Hurwitz and Schlossberg writing the script. I’ve really enjoyed the ‘Harold and Kumar’ movies and think they are good choice to bring the series back to the big screen.
