After opening to a strong $62 million last weekend the focus turned to how the legs would be for Inception. That has now been answered with the film displaying the result of great word-of-mouth and increased awareness. Inception came in first at the box office for the second straight weekend pulling in a very impressive $43.5 million. That makes out to be a drop of just 30%. It has now collected over $143 million and worldwide is over $225 million. Those are huge numbers for an original film after just 10 days and it hasn’t even rolled out in all the international markets yet.

The high profile new release was Angelina Jolie’s action film Salt. With $36.5 million it was a solid take and looks to be on target to make over $100 million domestically. It should play well to international audiences as well. The movie had mixed reviews, mostly citing the good action but a ridiculous plot. This opening could be enough to justify a sequel, which was set up for at the end of the film.

The other new opener was the family pic Ramona and Beezus which took in a fairly good $8 million considering it was made for just $15 million. Holdovers include Despicable Me dropping just 26% with it now having collected $161 million. The Sorcerer’s Apprentice had a weak opening but held pretty solidly down 45% taking in nearly $10 million. Toy Story 3 keeps inching towards $400 million with a weekend of over $9 million.
