Word of mouth for The Social Network has helped it hang on to the top spot at the box office besting three new releases. The movie fell just 30% to $15.5 million and has now collected $46 million. Life as We Know It, Secretariat, and My Soul To Take all produced mediocre results.

In second place it was the Life as We Know It which pulled in $14.6 million. The romantic comedy starring Josh Duhamel and Katherine Heigl had a strong marketing push but got poor reviews. However audiences seem to have liked it with exit polling from Cinemascore averaging an A- grade. It started strong actually winning Friday but dropped off a bit indicating long term potential may not be there.

Secretariat got the best reviews of the new movies this weekend but couldn’t gain the traction that other real life inspirational sports stories from Disney have been able to achieve. It made $12.6 million and stands to perform decently over the coming weeks.

Finally it was My Soul to Take, the latest horror entry from Wes Craven, which made $6.9 million. The movie got terrible reviews and interest never really was there with several other horror films having been released in the last month (and even two just last week).

Coming off the news that Zack Snyder will be directing Superman his animated film Legend of the Guardians continues to do well. In its third week it finished third with $7 million which represented a drop of just 35%. Overall this weekend was a slow one with the top 10 totaling just $88 million which is down 16% from the same weekend last year.
