Friday Night Lights Could Continue as Movie

The NBC/DirecTV series Friday Night Lights may get a chance to continue on the big screen. Its fifth and final season recently came to a close with a very satisfying ending but the story could go on if creator Peter Berg can get the project in motion.

FNL is amongst my favorite series of all time. Though critically lauded and having built a strong fan base it never gained a whole lot of traction in ratings. The early perception that it was a football show seemed to prevent some from giving it a chance when it was really more of a drama with football in the background tying the characters together and to their town. Outside of a rough patch in season two due to the writer’s strike and NBC’s attempt to make it more mainstream the series is known for its excellent writing and amazing performances.

Along with Veronica Mars I’d put FNL at the top of the list for series I hope to see something more from in movie form. It doesn’t look like VM will make it that far, but some hope is there now for FNL. If it doesn’t happen though at least the show went out on a strong note as it wasn’t left needing to tie up any loose ends.

Friday Night Lights was recently nominated for Best Drama at the upcoming Emmy Awards – long overdue for the honor – with Kyle Chandler and Connie Britton getting well deserved nods for Best Actor and Actress.
