NCAA Football 14: Hits and Misses
In recent years the NCAA Football series has lacked ambition, innovation, and even proper execution of features. With NCAA Football 14 however those concerns have been largely washed away and the result is a fun football video game that isn't necessarily a great college football video game. Continue on for an assessment of where NCAA 14 has succeeded and where it falls short in this Hits and Misses review. (more…)...
MLB 13: The Show – Hits and Misses
As a series MLB: The Show has been the most consistent of all the yearly sports representations this generation. Consumers have come to rely on exceptional baseball authenticity, realistic gameplay, fantastic graphics, and deep franchise and career modes to invest time with. What has been missing though is sense of accessibility and an acceptable online experience. Those aspects however are no longer holding the franchise back.
MLB 13: The Show is the iteration that pulled everything tog...
Madden NFL 13: Hits and Misses
The Madden franchise has faced intense criticism throughout this console generation and much of it has been warranted. EA Sports took the approach, with their intimate exclusive partnership with the NFL, of trying to appease the largest crowd possible with the thinking that producing a bland and inoffensive product would benefit both parties. Instead what that resulted in were titles that notably lacked innovation, imagination, and ultimately in their execution.
That only proved to turn a...
NCAA Football 13: Hits and Misses
It wasn't long ago that the NCAA Football series was the football product from EA Sports that took risks and innovated. In fact, many perceived NCAA to be the testing ground for Madden, and that had its benefits and share of drawbacks. Madden played it safe to try and placate a significantly larger userbase while NCAA was able to target what college football fans and those passionate about the series wanted.
Roles between those two franchises however have reversed in the last couple years...
MLB 12: The Show – Hits and Misses
Any review of MLB 12: The Show is going to be quite similar to those done for past iterations of the series. That certainly holds true with MLB 12 which delivers top notch authenticity, graphics, and depth while failing to provide an acceptable online play experience. (more…)...
MLB 2K12: Hits and Misses
2K Sports never made an effort to convince consumers that MLB 2K12 would represent a huge advancement for the struggling series - in fact one of their top five new features for the game was supposedly the soundtrack. Instead the company laid claim that problems of the past would be addressed and authenticity improved dramatically. Unfortunately they failed to deliver in all respects. Continue on for the Hits and Misses review of MLB 2K12. (more…)...
SSX: Hits and Misses
The SSX reboot from EA Sports faced the difficulty of living up to nostalgic feelings bred from earlier entries in the series while taking advantage of the advanced technology available to in turn justify its full price on the 360 and PS3 with a wider-ranging experience. The new game had to appeal to those earlier fans while reaching new ones - and it entered the marketplace during a period where arcade-style games have found little traction.
Despite some bumps along the way SSX largely s...
UFC Undisputed 3: Hits and Misses
The UFC as a video game franchise and THQ faced a somewhat do-or-die scenario with the release of UFC Undisputed 3. While the launch of the original back in 2009 turned out to be a huge hit the follow-up was a disappointment both financially and in terms of product quality. The company had to deliver with UFC 3 or its growth potential going forward would be greatly diminished and brand tarnished further. Thankfully, for the most part, UFC Undisputed 3 is an excellent product that has thoroug...
