No, it's not making a comeback to battle EA Sports' NHL series, but NHL 2K has been resurrected to land on mobile devices this fall. The game is being developed in partnership between Virtuos Games and Visual Concepts which is the same arrangement that produces NBA 2K on mobile. It will be available for iOS and Android devices. What you see now for mobile games is primarily free-to-play, but NHL 2K (also like NBA 2K) will sell for $8 instead. Modes include MyCareer, Winter Classic, 3-on-...

  • You Should Be Playing Tap Sports Baseball

Mobile games these days are largely dominated by free-to-play offerings that pressure users to spend money. Often it's about spending money just to be able to continue playing the game rather than the more traditional paying for optional upgrades or bonus content. This has resulted in a reliance on "whales" - the incredibly small percentage of users that account for the majority of the revenue - and creating a game that will hook them. They'd rather do that than make the game fun and invitin...

Dropping the year from the title, Madden NFL Mobile is the latest game out for iOS and Android devices from EA. After transitioning to the free-to-play model with Madden 25 this one continues the Ultimate Team structure that proved to be fairly successful despite a swarm of complaints from those who preferred the more traditional game of the past (paying up front with real teams and the usual modes) and disliked being badgered constantly for money in the new one. Some improvements have been ...

It seems as though baseball is the most represented sport in mobile because it's the most natural fit for a team-based sports game. A new entrant arrived today in Tap Sports Baseball that stands out from the crowd due to the team behind it. Tap Sports Baseball comes from the makers of Your Turn Football which was my personal favorite mobile sports game last year and one of the very few that proved to be compelling for a long stretch of time. It was a turn-based multiplayer game that on t...
