MTV had the chance to sit down with Avatar director James Cameron. Despite a re-release in theaters coming August 27, Cameron shared some details on the Avatar sequel. He mentions that the second film would take us to the 'oceans of Pandora'. "I think what we should do there is — because we'll have to have characters that are in and under the water — is that we should actually capture them underwater," Cameron explained. The highest grossing movie of all-time has now also captured the title of fasting selling Blu-ray in history. Avatar sold 1.5 million copies on its first day of release breaking the record previously held by The Dark Knight. The movie hit stores yesterday with an unorthodox plan of coming out on a Thursday to coincide with Earth Day. It also offered absolutely nothing in the way of extras in an effort to maximize the disc space and provide the best quality video and audio possible. Early re...

Fox today announced its plans for Avatar's release on DVD and Blu-ray and they are somewhat unconventional, though with James Cameron and the biggest movie of all-time involved that shouldn't come as a big surprise. The initial release will come on April 22nd, not coincidentally that is Earth Day. As opposed to the standard Tuesday releases this places Avatar to arrive in stores on a Thursday. Because of the desire to provide the absolute best audio and visual transfer the DVD and Blu-ray c...

Many considered Titanic's record of $1.835 billion made worldwide to be unbreakable. Today Avatar surpassed that amount and did so in less than six weeks of release to become the highest grossing film of all time. It will soon cruise past $2 billion and there are no indications it will be dropping off any time soon. Domestically Avatar still trails Titanic by $46 million which sets it up to break that record of $600 million by the end of next weekend. It will likely even see a slight boost ...

Continuing its extraordinary run Avatar pulled in another $48.5 million this weekend nearly tripling the amount made by any other movie. What is even more remarkable about that amount is that it represents a drop of just 29%. That would be an amazingly small drop following any weekend let alone a holiday weekend. Many had wondered how Avatar would hold up once everyone went back to school and work and the results are showing that the movie is here to stay. There is no doubt now it will chal...

The latest worldwide numbers have come in for Avatar and it has now exceeded $1 billion making it the fourth highest grossing movie of all-time after just 17 days of release. James Cameron is now the only director to have two movies in the $1 billion club and there are only five total that have made it. Avatar still has over $800 million to go to catch Titanic but will cruise into second place by the end of the week. Considering how fast it got to a billion it is realistic to now put the recor...

The movie made an estimated $25 million on New Years Day taking it to $308.8 million. Its worldwide total is now over $800 million. Only two movies have hit $300 million faster than Avatar.
