EA Sports played it safe with NCAA Football 13 by addressing some legacy issues while adding a highly marketable mode with the Heisman Challenge. Unfortunately for veterans of the series the game will feel all too familiar and those tempted primarily by the allure of legends may find themselves somewhat unsatisfied with the path they're being led down. NCAA Football 13 is a product as rich in content as it is uninspired in its execution.  (more…)...

NCAA Football 13 is being largely marketed on the new Heisman Challenge mode which features the ability to play with 10-16 former award winners. The purpose is to try and match and exceed their statistical achievements with the ability to place them on any school to do so. While Heisman Challenge works conceptually - at least to an extent - it falls apart in its attempt to provide any sort of special feel to the individuals and the playing experience.  (more…)...

EA Sports has struggled with communicating just what Connected Careers in Madden NFL 13 is all about and going with a new name to reflect the revolutionary advancement is playing a big part in that. Confusion still abounds from those believing the company has "removed Franchise mode" and any recognition of what is actually being offered remains cloudy at best. Essentially being a "Coach" in Connected Careers is what Franchise mode used to be while choosing to be a "Player" is more along t...

EA Sports made a splash yesterday by announcing the "Infinity Engine" and Connected Careers for Madden NFL 13. The latter really isn't on display at E3 - nor would it really be feasible to play through in such an environment - so the former is getting most of the glory and rightfully so. The physics-driven engine isn't completely changing the way Madden plays but it is definitely enhancing it to a great degree.  (more…)...

New Star Soccer recently made its way onto iOS and Android and has quickly become a standout mobile game. A career mode that features turn-based action and a number of outside elements to manage is joined by a simple mini-game in the mold of the "Flick" offerings on the market. Both have proven to be addictive and well designed.  (more…)...

Any review of MLB 12: The Show is going to be quite similar to those done for past iterations of the series. There's a consistency to what The Show does well - just as there is with where it tends to falter. That certainly holds true with MLB 12 which delivers top notch authenticity, graphics, and depth while failing to provide an acceptable online play experience.  (more…)...

2K Sports never made an effort to convince consumers that MLB 2K12 would represent a huge advancement for the struggling series - in fact one of their top five new features for the game was supposedly the soundtrack. Instead the company laid claim that problems of the past would be addressed and authenticity improved dramatically. Unfortunately they failed to deliver in all respects. Continue on for the Hits and Misses review of MLB 2K12.  (more…)...

The first in line is Tiger Woods PGA Tour 13 which had its demo release this week providing an opportunity to try out the new swing detection and voice command features.  (more…)...
