With Madden NFL 12 EA Sports delivered arguably the best online experience to date for a sports game and came out on top in the community choice awards votingĀ for the category. Madden NFL 13 looks to continue the impressive online performance with an expanded suite of features that includes true multi-season online leagues via Connected Careers mode, a new skill points ranking system, and ties to social media accounts.Ā  (more…)...

Though theĀ website for Connected Careers mode in Madden NFL 13 went live last Friday with limited functionality there's quite a bit to take advantage of already with much more to come. The site is currently lacking the ways in which to interact with careers and instead is limited to viewing some stats and attributes along with a few really cool social features.Ā  (more…)...

Going through Madden NFL 13's Connected Careers mode as a "Coach" may be intimidating to some - but in doing so as a "Player" it will not be nearly as overwhelming. The trade-off then comes in what is a somewhat less engaging experience. A career can be progressed through in much quicker fashion by skipping a good portion of games and not having to micromanage the weekly tasks that befall a "Coach" while the emphasis on XP to improve attributes and skills adds some investment to the player's...

The new Connected Careers mode for Madden NFL 13 - which encompasses what used to be Franchise and Superstar modes - is so large in scope that even EA Sports has struggled to communicate what it represents. Essentially both modes are now housed in the same area and have all the same features while also being enabled as online leagues. A new progression system consisting of XP drives the advancement of players while a news hub brings the events of the league into focus. For this profile of...

With Madden NFL 13 the series is coming off a generally well received iteration but one in which still didn't meet the expectations of many. Several core improvements have been made to gameplay - including the highly anticipated "Infinity Engine" physics - which may do enough to change the perception of stagnation built over this generation. Presentation on the other hand still comes up notably short.Ā  (more…)...

Ever since the announcement of the "Infinity Engine" physics for Madden NFL 13 the demo took on greater importance than usual. A consumer base that has grown skeptical of EA Sports and their touting of new features would need not just to see it in action but feel its presence for themselves to make judgment on. There is a lot more in the way of improvements to Madden 13 but that would be the big one in swaying perception. My initial feeling on the implementation was quite positive and it has...

It wasn't long ago that the NCAA Football series was the football product from EA Sports that took risks and innovated. In fact, many perceived NCAA to be the testing ground for Madden, and that had its benefits and share of drawbacks. Madden played it safe to try and placate a significantly larger userbase while NCAA was able to target what college football fans and those passionate about the series wanted. Roles between those two franchises however have reversed in the last couple years...

Online Play for NCAA Football 13 can be defined as a strength while still being indicative of the larger problem being faced by the series. Though the game performance is solid, and Online Dynasty remains extremely impressive, the suite of features feels more stale than ever due to a lack variety now having gone five years deep without any notable additions.
