When it was announced two months ago many found the choice of Eddie Murphy to host The Oscars an inspired one. The show has struggled in recent years with bland, tired headliners or those that disappointed to cringe-worthy levels. Brett Ratner was slated to produce the show and picked the star of his film Tower Heist (which just released last week). Ironically it is Ratner that ended up costing Murphy the gig given his departure from the production. Ratner has come under fire lately for c...

Eddie Murphy has been selected to host the upcoming Academy Awards, which is scheduled to take place on February 26th 2012. Murphy was once nominated - in 2006 for his supporting role in Dreamgirls. He has more Razzie nominations however as his career took a sharp downturn by taking on roles in some truly terrible films. Still he is fondly remembered for his early career and in particular his brilliant stand-up comedy. Brett Ratner is running the show and chose Murphy, who is in the Novem...

Coming away the big winner at the 83rd Academy Awards was The King's Speech which led the way with four Oscars: Best Picture, Best Director, Best Actor, and Best Original Screenplay. In the role that will be perceived as runner-up, The Social Network pulled off three victories for Best Adapted Screenplay, Best Score, and Best Film Editing. Despite not winning the big categories and even being snubbed in others (Christopher Nolan) Inception tied for the most Oscars as the film won Best Cine...

The Social Network may be the favorite for Best Picture at the Oscars however it didn't lead the field in nominations. The King's Speech instead has earned the most nominations with 12 followed by True Grit with 10. Surprisingly Christopher Nolan is not in the field for Best Director despite eight nominations for Inception which tied it with The Social Network. The 83rd Academy Awards ceremony takes place on February 27th and will be hosted by James Franco and Anne Hathaway. (more…...

James Franco and Anne Hathaway are officially set to host the 83rd Annual Academy Awards show which will take place on February 27th. They represent what appears to be a move towards attracting a younger audience. Both have done well with hosting Saturday Night Live which was a factor in the decision. Last year the Academy Awards were hosted by the combination of Steve Martin and Alex Baldwin. While the Oscars have attempted to revamp their shows over recent years (quicker pace and expandin...

What was expected to be a largely predictable 82nd Annual Academy Awards turned out to be just that. There was only one result that would largely be considered a surprise, while the few races that had some suspense played out as many had predicted. The Hurt Locker was the big winner coming away with six awards, while Avatar ended as the runner-up with three. The actual show was a mess with some terrible directing, technical issues, unfunny sequences, and an interpretive dance routine that w...

With the 82nd Annual Academy Awards taking place this evening I wanted to get my final thoughts and predictions out. This is one of the more highly anticipated Oscar ceremonies in years. Much of that due the expansion of the Best Picture nominations to include 10 films which has allowed for a few mainstream inclusions that may have not been nominated otherwise. Despite that, it is really only a race between two, with two other extreme dark horses looming. Make sure to check back shortly after ...
