    For the most part the nominations for the 82nd Academy Awards went as expected. The acting categories are almost all considered to be locks for one winner with the other nominees mostly the same as earlier award shows. With the Best Picture category expanding to 10 films it would be hard to complain about ones that didn't make the cut. Still there were a couple surprises and a few nominations or omissions that I noted. The most glaring snub seems to be with Star Trek not getting a Best Pict...

    Early this morning the nominations for the 82nd Academy Awards were announced with the show being held on Sunday March 7th. This year the Best Picture race was extended to include 10 films which has resulted in a few more mainstream films being recognized such as District 9 and The Blind Side. The leaders in nominations are Avatar and The Hurt Locker both coming away with nine.     The nominations for the Academy Awards will be announced on February 2nd and the show will take place on March 7th. In advance of that there is a lot of discussion around the chances for each of the top films to win Best Picture. Recent award shows have offered an opportunity to see how voters may be leaning but the results have only made the race appear to be more wide open than anticipated to begin with. A few weeks ago I looked at The Hurt Locker as being the favorite with Up in the Air ...
