With just a brief respite at the start of the NFL Draft the 136 day long lockout is for all intents and purposes over. Owners and player representatives have agreed to a new Collective Bargaining Agreement. Beginning tomorrow teams will be able to sign rookies (drafted and undrafted), make trades, and begin negotiating contracts with free agents. No contracts can be signed by free agents however until 6ET on Friday. What does it all mean for Madden NFL 12? It's a big win for EA Sports who...
  • NBA 2K12 Positioned to Fare Relatively Well Despite Lockout

2K Sports is coming off the extraordinary release of NBA 2K11 which in most years would mean smooth sailing. Word of mouth from the previous iteration often is the biggest influence on consumer support and confidence and marketing wise the company has that in its back pocket. However with the NBA lockout official and expected to extend into the season the series now faces similar hurdles to those Madden NFL 12 dealt with earlier in the summer. More problematic is that 2K12 does so with a lab...
  • NHL 12 Cover Athlete is Now a Free Agent

By most accounts Steven Stamkos was an excellent choice as the cover athlete for EA Sports' NHL 12. The one thing many initially overlooked however was his looming status as a free agent. The Tampa Bay Lightning had until today to exclusively negotiate a contract with Stamkos and prevent him from hitting the market. An agreement was not completed and Stamkos is now a restricted free agent. A scenario where Stamkos ends up on another team still seems unlikely but it's possible nonetheless....
  • Your Thoughts on NBA Draft Day 2011

Overwhelming opinion was that the 2011 NBA Draft was soft on premiere talent outside of the top two names though good players surely will develop out of the class. The Cavs went in with #1 and #4 and as expected snagged PG Kyrie Irving and then generated a mild surprise by taking PF Tristan Thompson. At #2 the Timberwolves hung onto their choice and took PF Derrick Williams and will likely look to deal one of their big men to make room. The Jazz followed up at #3 by taking C Enes Kanter who'...

Gus Johnson will remain the play-by-play announcer for Madden NFL 12 but his departure from CBS, which was announced today, raises questions going forward. Reports are that he is done with college basketball and presumably MMA events and his other options are getting more limited. It is being rumored he is now in talks with Fox Sports to cover college football. What makes this all the more interesting is NFL Network revealing today their new broadcast team of Brad Nessler doing play-by-pl...
