The recent release of NBA Jam, and the rumor of EA Sports possibly reviving NFL Blitz, prompted some thinking on my part as to the future of arcade style games. One has to wonder if they simply are no longer viable as full retail releases. Sluggish sales of NBA Jam are the latest example of the struggles to succeed in the marketplace. (more…)...

One of the big selling points of NBA Jam for the 360 and PS3 was the inclusion of online play. Beyond just the typical head-to-head, EA Sports delivered on a variety of modes to play online. The potential for NBA Jam to be one of the most enjoyable online experiences available was evident but unfortunately that hasn't turned out to be the case. (more…)...

Having already detailed the doubling in sales that the NBA 2K series received with 2K11 and the drop-off that Madden 11 is now experiencing that leaves a handful of other titles and their sales to still discuss. It is largely disappointing news even when considering some of the following games didn't have huge expectations to begin with. (more…)...

NBA Jam does many things well but still faces quite a bit of scrutiny. Arguably the biggest question centers on value given that EA Sports eroded the brand by advertising it as being "free" with NBA Elite 11. Value is always a subjective thing but I don't see that being the problem with the game. Various gameplay frustrations and some issues with online play though have soured me on NBA Jam already which doesn't bode well going forward. (more…)...

Continuing with the series of Xbox 360 hard drive installation evaluations I've gone through and compared several areas of NBA Jam based on loading times from the disk vs the hard drive. As typical with arcade games the loading is generally quick and due to that the installation shows limited improvement in that area but is still beneficial. (more…)...

NBA Jam for the 360 and PS3 came out today and offers everything found in the Wii version that released last month but adds in the enhanced graphics and online functionality. The HD version of NBA Jam also includes an expanded menu of online modes which are delivered via patch at start-up such as online co-op, a rank-up system, and "Remix". No word on when the first roster update will arrive but here are the base rosters for the Eastern and Western conferences. I really enjoyed in my time w...

NBA Jam is releasing tomorrow for the Xbox 360 and PS3 and along with it will be the expanded online feature set delivered via patch. Until now those extra online features, including online co-op and Remix mode online, only had a tentative arrival of "by December". The patch will be available immediately. As discussed previously to a great degree, much of the difficulty in releasing NBA Jam on its own has been that EA Sports devalued the game by advertising it as being a free pack-in with N...
