Developer HB Studios today announced that The Golf Club 2019, which is set to release in August, will include the official PGA Tour license for the game's Career Mode that will culminate in the FedExCup Playoffs. There are six real-life courses included at launch with TPC Boston, TPC Deere Run, TPC Sawgrass, TPC Scottsdale, TPC Southwind, and TPC Summerlin. Users will begin their career in the Web.com Tour qualifying tournament, the start of a journey to become a PGA TOUR member. Finishing ...
  • Rory McIlroy PGA Tour vanishing from digital storefronts and EA Access next week

Surprising news was recently confirmed by EA Sports relating to Rory McIlroy PGA Tour which released nearly three years ago. Not only is the game being removed from the "Vault" through EA Access on Xbox One but it'll no longer be available for purchase through any digital storefronts. The removal will take place on May 22. This is an unusual development and one that points directly at a licensing conflict as the culprit. It's only the second time a game has left the subscription service. ...
  • Third entry in The Golf Club series to release later this year

The Golf Club is a two-time winner of the PCA for Best Non-Yearly Sports Game (2014, 2017) but with the announcement today that the next edition in the series will release in the July-September quarter of 2018 it'll be losing its eligibility in that category to the probably delight of fans. Golf games, and unlicensed games or those that don't have significant roster turnover in general, have really struggled in recent years selling themselves to the marketplace without extended layoffs b...

When The Golf Club 2 released it faced major problems due to its servers which rendered the game largely unplayable for three days. Thankfully ever since it's been functional and stable but there remained some ways in which the performance could be improved. The first patch for the game is already out on PC and just now has gone out on PlayStation 4. The wait due to the certification process with Microsoft could be only a few days away a week or two even if everything goes smoothly. For the first four days of release The Golf Club 2 was rendered largely unplayable due to server issues that made both Career Mode and Online Societies inaccessible. The problems appear to have been ironed out as the weekend went smoothly with all features working properly. The only issue I've run into since Saturday are completed rounds played in Society that, when returning to start the next round, have lost results for a handful of holes in the completed round. I've had to re-play the ...

It's no longer a surprise when a new game releases and online connectivity is inconsistent or completely unfunctional. Unfortunately that's been the case with The Golf Club 2 which came out on Tuesday. The original didn't have any problems of the sort but with a sequel that's likely performing better with consumers the downside to that is an independent developer up against a challenge they may not have been prepared to face. One of the great things about The Golf Club is that progress is...
