Baseball has become the only major sport that has direct competition and for MLB 11: The Show and MLB 2K11 even that takes place on just one console. As the two still fight for market share consumers have started to show signs of fatigue towards them for very different reasons. In response MLB 11 added analog controls and 2K11 brought back the perfect game contest. Early reports this year indicate sales are down for both games. For a few years now though this hasn't been a competition at ...
  • MLB 2K11 $1 Million Contest Nearing its Start

    Posted March 31st, 2011 at 4:45 pm 15 Comments »
The opportunity to win $1 million by throwing a perfect game in MLB 2K11 begins tomorrow at noon eastern. Practically the whole marketing campaign for 2K11 has focused on the contest but interest appears significantly lower than last year where the winner pulled off the feat on the first day the game was out. Make sure to read through all the rules to make sure any attempts being made actually qualify. The hope was that a patch addressing various bugs and AI issues would be delivered befo...
  • MLB 2011 Player Face Comparison Results

    Posted March 24th, 2011 at 1:00 pm 25 Comments »
Over 38,000 votes were cast in the MLB 2K11 vs MLB 11: The Show player face comparison polls. It was The Show that came out on top 14-6, which considering the graphical differences between the two games isn't a surprise. The community proved though that the voting wouldn't just go down the line for the favored game and instead cast for the better player representation in each individual match-up. The general consensus though is that both games have quite a bit of room for improvement. I...

If you haven't already then make sure to vote on the first set as well. All images were captured using the same software in daytime conditions, so any differences in visuals are from the games themselves. 2K11 images are on the left with The Show on the right. The wrap-up article with results and analysis will come early in the week. Continue on for the 10 comparisons, vote in the polls, and leave an...

MLB 2K is a series on its last legs. The third party exclusive MLB license has just a year left and 2K Sports can't wait to get out of it having publicly regretted the decision to enter the agreement which loses them tens of millions each year. With MLB 2K11 it has become readily apparent that some combination of the necessary resources not being provided and the effort and care not being present are resulting in a product that fails to reach today's standards. MLB 2K11 has some really gr...
  • All 30 Authentic Broadcast Camera Angles in MLB 2K11
    by
    Posted March 10th, 2011 at 9:20 am 46 Comments »
Both baseball titles this year introduced television broadcast cameras tailored to the specifics for each team. MLB 2K11's broadcast cameras appear somewhat less pronounced than those in MLB 11: The Show and a few are very different (the Braves for one). The only issue I have encountered due to the angles is with those stadiums where the view is zoomed out considerably like in Tampa. The ball cursor is so big, and the strike zone available so small, it is difficult to place pitches with any ...
  • MLB 2K11 Franchise Sim Results

One area of MLB 2K11 that looks to be producing reasonably good results is the Franchise mode sim engine. I went through and simmed a single season and outside of one questionable trade the developments looked to be generally plausible and the stats realistic. Continue on for some screens from the mode including standings, stats, and awards winners.  (more…)...
