We've known since February that a Madden branded Facebook game was in the works. In the time since FIFA Superstars launched on Facebook and became an instant success. Companies have found the free-to-play but microtransaction/ad-supported games to be extremely lucrative. Consider especially that they have the potential to reach the hundreds of millions that actively use the social networking site as compared to more restrictive console user bases. Bitmob came across, just by random circum...
  • Backbreaker Patch Now Available

The patch for Backbreaker is now available for both the 360 and PS3 and seems to have at the very least provided some improvement in the areas that really needed it. The most discussed issues now, being seen due to the introduction of the patch, appear to be a high rate of dropped passes and custom team rosters with ratings changing league wide and messed up depth charts. Those are legit concerns to monitor but otherwise the early impressions are largely positive with additions such as expande...

The full details on the patch for Backbreaker were delivered today with the patch likely to be released within the next week or two. While the patch appears to be extensive the question remains as to its effectiveness. The game was under development for such a lengthy period of time yet released with a myriad of severe issues and core deficiencies that one has to wonder how much could really change with the work of about another month and a half. Continue on to check out the full list of chang...

Kotaku got a chance to try out Motion Sports which is a launch title from Ubisoft for Xbox 360 Kinect. The description below for one of the mini-games that make up Motion Sports will seem awfully familiar. Yeah, its basically a motion controlled version of Backbreaker's "Tackle Alley". The American Football mini-game is simple. You control a running back who is trying to avoid opposing players as he runs to the end zone. The running is automatic. But you can jump, duck, stiff-arm or even do...

EA Sports has announced they have updated the rosters for Madden Arcade including off-season transactions and rookies! Along with that they have confirmed that there will not be another arcade game release this year so this update somewhat accounts for that. This is a pretty neat gesture providing an opportunity to try out some of the new players for your favorite teams in advance of Madden 11's release. In order to get the updated roster one must start an online game which will bring up the p...

Quick Hit Football has reached a deal that will incorporate NFL licensing in the free browser-based football management sim. Kotaku broke the news which will deliver NFL team names, logos, uniforms, and all league branding into the game. Terms of the multi-year deal have not been disclosed. The exclusive NFL license held by EA Sports covers the console games but gets a little fuzzier when it comes to other platforms. Last year NFL 2010 from Gameloft was released on the iPhone as a competito...
  • Early Backbreaker Online Impressions

At the time I posted my initial impressions of Backbreaker I had been unable to play online. Now that I have I wanted to get some early thoughts out regarding online play. Many people may be looking to online to salvage the game given the troubling CPU AI faced offline. I'm pleased to say that so far just the elimination of CPU QB play and CPU play calling has made the experience much more enjoyable. However lag issues are being monitored and a puzzling design decision within the online option...

I've spent the majority of the day with Backbreaker (PS3 version). For those of you who played the demo on the 360 the final version is comparable to that. I haven't noticed any obvious differences in gameplay between the two though things have opened up a little more with the extended quarter lengths making it much better for evaluation purposes. Continue on for some of my thoughts on Backbreaker so far! (more…)...
