2K Sports has touted the addition of a compelling online component to Association mode in NBA 2K12 - making it easily the most anticipated new feature this year. Similar in nature to NCAA Football's Online Dynasty mode, Online Association was designed to present all of the very same features found offline taking it beyond the concept of simple online leagues. While it still holds a great deal of potential a few design decisions have hampered the experience significantly and server issues thu...

By Brian Sipple When Manchester United star Wayne Rooney announced this June that he underwent a hair transplant to fix a receding hairline worthy of making LeBron cringe, some fans wondered if he should be more focused on the issues behind his mild 2010-11 season slump. It turns out all he needed was a slight confidence booster. Just 7 games into the Premier League season, Rooney has shown a new found swagger and has racked up 9 goals in Man U’s red hot start. Last year’s FIFA 11 fo...

By Brian Sipple With EA Sports’ exclusive console deal with the NFL not ending until 2014, and no present news of any other interested parties, it’s easy to forget that mobile gaming is still an open range for NFL licensing. So far this has given us NFL branded titles like Gameloft’s NFL 2010 and NFL 2011, however both received average reviews and never managed to take off commercially. Natural Motion’s Backbreaker has been the only other football title to “go mainstream” but...

Madden NFL 12 approached release under unique circumstances - a lockout threatening the season, several high level developers departing right in the middle of the development cycle, and the release date being pushed back to the end of August. EA Sports appears to have benefited from the lockout being lifted and the intense excitement for the coming season with the release of the game coming right at the height of anticipation. The enhancements to Madden 12 were meant to satisfy the long-t...

By Brian Sipple Surreal as it may seem, we’re finally here. After Ray Lewis’ crime warnings, Ochocinco’s multi-sport pursuits, James Harrison’s disregard for fire safety, and non-stop negotiation, the NFL has finally decided how to demarcate its billions bedding concerns that the game’s exploding popularity would come grinding to a halt. While not quite on par the NFL’s labor strife, EA Sports has seen its share of recent volatility amongst its leadership at a time when the comp...

Though only a few days in Madden NFL 12 has delivered one of the better online experiences to date for a sports game. Typically this series, and many others, struggle with performance issues at and shortly following release but that has largely been avoided here. There is one problem being experienced by a small percentage of consumers but beyond that online has been nothing short of excellent and it is refreshing to say that after years of disappointment.  (more…)...

The Madden franchise has been held back over the last few years due to a number of factors - not least of which has been the change in focus and direction that seemingly happened with the release of every iteration. Madden NFL 12 though has made the wise decision to concentrate on providing the authentic NFL experience. Whether that be directed at those who are used to watching on TV or others who spend game-days in the stadiums there is something of which that will emotionally connect to ev...
