  • NBA Live 18 is practically being given away now on Xbox One
    Posted January 18th, 2018 at 12:30 pm 17 Comments
Given the turbulence of the series over the last decade there was never a chance that NBA Live 18 would sell many copies no matter how good the game would turn out to be. Skepticism from consumers was more than justified and its competitor too popular and well established. Instead the goal for EA Sports was always to regain some credibility and slowly bring more people on board through word-of-mouth and by playing with the price. A pre-order discount making the game $40 was the first stra...
  • Nike City Edition jerseys added to NBA Live 18
    Posted December 28th, 2017 at 9:30 am 1 Comment
Given that NBA 2K18 mistakenly leaked all the Nike 'City Edition' jerseys two weeks ago it's ironic that NBA Live 18 is the first of the two games to roll them out officially. The new jerseys were revealed by NBA teams yesterday and in an update out now for Live 18 those new designs are fully available for use.  (more…)...
  • NBA Live 18 drops to $10 on PlayStation 4
    Posted December 19th, 2017 at 9:00 am 16 Comments
Last month NBA Live 18 was available for $15 on both PS4 and Xbox One which was a great price for a game featuring a really strong career mode, enjoyable gameplay, and absence of pressure/necessity to spend more money on an in-game currency. Now the price is even better on PS4 where the game can be had for just $10. This sale is expected to last until December 26 and is available to PlayStation Plus subscribers....
  • Player editing added to NBA Live 18
    Posted December 7th, 2017 at 7:45 am 9 Comments
The NBA Live series has lacked the ability to edit players going all the way back to the reboot that was NBA Live 14. Despite being one of the most requested features by the basketball gaming community EA Sports failed to provide player editing abilities in the titles that have since followed including this year's NBA Live 18. Now though, with a post-release patch that released today, player editing has returned to the Live franchise.  (more…)...
  • 3v3 Live Run added to NBA Live 18
    Posted November 21st, 2017 at 8:00 am 2 Comments
A patch released today for NBA Live 18 on both Xbox One and PlayStation 4 has added a 3v3 variant to the online pick-up mode called Live Run. The 3v3 joins the standard 5v5 Live Run that has become a staple of the series. 3v3 can be played either with random teammates or together with friends. Live Run involves the user-created characters from Career mode in street games populated by all human teammates and opponents. The patch also includes a handful of random fixes and the rosters have ...
  • Details on the third patch for NBA Live 18
    Posted October 17th, 2017 at 7:45 am 15 Comments
After adding in the Nike Statement uniforms and addressing a number of issues identified through community feedback, the latest patch for NBA Live 18 released today and tweaks some areas of gameplay along with career and franchise modes. Maybe the most notable change is the tuning of playoff simulations, which was noted in my review for problematic results which were common such as the Knicks and Mavericks winning the NBA Finals. Gameplay ♦Tuned Slider impact for shot contest ♦Tuned...
  • NBA Live 18 upsets NBA 2K18 by having done a better job with player faces
    Posted October 16th, 2017 at 11:45 am 15 Comments
Three years ago NBA 2K head a clear advantage in representing player faces but the gap between it and NBA Live has completely closed in the time since. With this year's contest NBA Live 18 has surprisingly topped NBA 2K18 by winning 13 of the 24 matchups. It was an incredibly close contest however with a number of NBA Live's winners finishing within just a few percentage points of flipping to the other side.  (more…)...
  • First retailer deals for NBA Live 18
    Posted October 11th, 2017 at 12:15 pm 9 Comments
NBA Live 18 never had a chance in the marketplace to sell even at a reduced $40 pre-order price. No one, including publisher EA Sports, would have expected otherwise. The goal instead was to reestablish some credibility, get a few people on board with the series over the next year through various means (demo, EA Access, price drops, possible stumbles by competition) and hopefully see the signs of progress with the release of an NBA Live 19. It remains to be seen whether Live 18 will be th...
