New patch for MLB The Show 18 further addresses the most pressing gameplay issues
Three areas of gameplay that have been heavily scrutinized since release are at the center of another patch for MLB The Show 18. Issues have been identified with the PCI jumping up or down during a swing, fielders struggling to make a play on balls that they should be able reach, and fastball speeds that have made the pitch practically unusable in online games.
The latest update to MLB The Show 18 hits on all three of those problematic areas. However, pitch speed has only been adjusted fo...
Details on the first ratings changes for MLB The Show 18
Today's roster update for MLB The Show 18 is the first to include ratings changes. While it's still relatively early in the season enough data is now present to justify making those changes but the upgrades and downgrades have been kept somewhat minimal considering it has only been a month. The specific ratings mentioned here belong to Diamond Dynasty mode where the numbers are lower across the board than those found in the rest of the game.
Of greatest interest are the players in Diamond...
New players added with first MLB The Show 18 in-season roster update
With the notable exception of Shohei Ohtani, players are added to MLB The Show after becoming members of the MLBPA which requires having made a single appearance in a major league game. The first in-season roster update for MLB The Show 18 has gone out and includes 22 new rookies that have debuted and a number of other players added to team rosters. The first changes to player ratings won't occur until late this month.
The highest rated rookie to be added in this first wave comes in at 79...
Third MLB The Show 18 patch makes more adjustments to fielding
MLB The Show 18 has now been out for exactly two weeks and in that time has received three patches. Today's update again addresses fielding which has arguably been the most problematic gameplay-related area this year.
"Fix for user controlled player to make sure his starting direction has the correct angle and ensures he is on the right path to make any potential catch. This adjustment should help with bad angles to the ball which led to potential misses."
In an earlier patch fielding ...

Patch addresses issues identified in the first days of release for MLB The Show 18
Outside of the predictable problems with servers, MLB The Show 18 has had a fairly clean release with only some early mild concerns over trouble fielding balls off the ground, pitch speed seemingly too low for fastballs, and PCI coverage not reaching the edges of the plate. The first patch for the game released today and actually addresses all those things and more.
♦Slight increase to pitching speeds across all gameplay modes.
♦Fielding animation adjustments to catch more balls just...
MLB The Show 18 also removed Season Mode
The news that Online Franchise was being removed with MLB The Show 18 was tough for many to accept, and though SCEA had been collecting pre-orders for months by then at least that information was being provided prior to release. What wasn't mentioned despite plenty of opportunity to do so along the way is that Season Mode had also gotten the axe. That's especially damaging news to those who planned to carry over Season saves that had been active with MLB 17 and may have even been played goin...
