It came as a complete surprise this morning when the PlayStation 4 store page for NBA Playgrounds went live with the ability to download what would appear to be the full game and for free. NBA Playgrounds is supposed to be $20 when it releases on Tuesday, May 9 for PS4, XB1, PC, and Switch. It wouldn't be the first time though that a game had been accidentally pushed live with the licenses being revoked later once the error was corrected. At this point it remains unclear whether the down...

The new arcade-style game NBA Playgrounds is only a matter of days away from releasing and independent developer Saber Interactive has now released a video offering the first official extended look at non-beta gameplay. NBA Playgrounds is a 2-on-2 game, played outdoors but more in the mold of NBA Jam than NBA Street, that has both offline and online play with individuals from the roster acquired through the opening of card packs. NBA Playgrounds will release as a $20 digital download for...

Developer Saber Interactive has revealed the entire NBA Playgrounds roster through Gamespot which is made up of 44 players from the league's past and 3-6 players representing each team. I've broken that complete list out into the legends and for the current players with their respective teams. Surprisingly there are some great present day players that have been left off the game including Isaiah Thomas, Klay Thompson, Giannis Antetokounmpo, and Kemba Walker. A tweet from the company m...

After a decade absent of arcade-style street basketball on consoles 2017 will offer at least two games that fit that mold. The unlicensed free-to-play 3on3 Freestyle released earlier this year and now there's also one to look forward to that features NBA licensing and both current and legendary players with NBA Playgrounds. The game will release as a $20 digital download in May on PlayStation 4, Xbox One, Nintendo Switch, and PC. NBA Playgrounds will be the first sports game from develo...

Two untraditional sports games have recently arrived in Disc Jam and 3on3 Freestyle. The former a tennis and air hockey mashup generating great word-of-mouth while the latter the first street basketball game for a console in 10 years and free-to-play but gone largely unnoticed. With Disc Jam free to PlayStation Plus members (it's also available on PC where it's on sale for its first week) both of the games offer the opportunity to play without any initial investment. Disc Jam will be fr...
