In testimony earlier this week in the Ed O'Bannon case vs the NCAA, an Electronic Arts representative expressed the desire the company has to develop college-based video games in the future. Joel Linzner, EVP of Business & Legal, stated EA would be "very interested in acquiring the rights" of players to use in the games. Of course this would require the NCAA to remove most if not all restrictions on the "amateur" status of athletes which is what the class action suit is attempting to...
  • EA Sports Teasing Another NBA Jam

A tweet today from the the EA Sports NBA Jam account suggests that a new game is in development and could release later this year. The account had been dormant for almost two years until it awoke on Sunday. Remember that last year EA was play-testing what was said to be a new concept for an NBA game so this could be it. (more…)...
  • EA Sports Working on Second NBA Game

A new survey advertising a play-session later this week with a conceptually new NBA game at EA Canada has been discovered by NLSC. Those in the Vancouver area who are interested in taking part are asked to complete the survey which includes questions gauging experience with sports video games and level of sports fandom in general. A "new concept" implies something unorthodox and an arcade-style game to counteract NBA 2K14 with the arrival of the new consoles would make more sense than goi...
  • NBA Jam: On Fire Edition Gets Another Roster Update; This Time Adds Players
    by

After being pressured a great deal EA Sports finally provided a roster update for NBA Jam: On Fire Edition at the end of January. That satisfied the requirement given it was a prominently advertised feature and to an extent even met the realistic expectations for the title making another update - which has just arrived - a pleasant surprise. The first update only moved players around and didn't add any rookies or others who had increased their relevance enough to include on the limited ...
  • NBA Jam: On Fire Edition Finally Gets Its First Roster Update

It took until practically a third of the NBA season was complete, and pressure from outside sources, but EA Sports has finally met their obligation to provide at least one roster update for NBA Jam: On Fire Edition after advertising it as a feature. An update arrived today and can be grabbed by going to the 'Online Arena' section of the game. Don't expect much out of this roster update though. Players have been moved around - the Chris Paul and Blake Griffin tandem is now available - but ...
  • EA Sports Decides They’ll Provide Advertised Roster Updates for NBA Jam: On Fire Edition

As noted yet again in the article from earlier today EA Sports had notably been avoiding the topic of roster updates for NBA Jam: On Fire Edition since first announcing it as a feature way back in July. At all costs they ignored consumer and media inquiries into the matter. It seemed as though they hoped the topic would fade out of relevance and thus refused to respond to requests for comment not just from here but other prominent media outlets including Kotaku. Putting the pressure on t...
  • Both EA and 2K Fail to Meet Post-NBA Lockout Expectations
    by
    Posted January 17th, 2012 at 8:30 am 24 Comments »
The anticipation and excitement of a returning NBA stretched from fans to game publishers as EA Sports and 2K Sports hoped to capitalize on a quasi re-release period and make up for some of the losses that had been incurred due to the league lockout. The extent to which they have been successful though has been limited. NBA 2K12 was able to get a decent sales bump out of it but in terms of support have come up short while EA flat out misled consumers by advertising a feature that has not bee...
  • NFL Blitz Arriving With a Whimper – Lack of NBA Jam Support Partially Responsible

Based on the results of the poll posted last week regarding purchase plans for NFL Blitz - which releases tomorrow on XBLA and PSN for $15 - enthusiasm has dropped considerably since the original announcement of the game. Only 13% plan to buy Blitz and 59% are dead set against it. The remaining chunk is in wait and see mode and may base a decision on the trial version. Considering the only unedited gameplay video generated pure indifference it might be tough to hook those people who are on ...
