Trailer for MLB 2K13
Though 2K Sports continues to actively hide MLB 2K13 for all those interested in learning anything about the game, the one sure thing that was to arrive prior to release was an official trailer. There is nothing new to be gleaned from it unfortunately as it contains just the typical flashy replay footage, with the exception of spotting that they at least got the Astros their new uniforms, but it's something anyway. (more…)...
2K Combo Pack with MLB and NBA Returns But at Reduced Value
Last year 2K Sports bundled MLB 2K12 and NBA 2K12 in early March for $70 and limited it to the Xbox 360. The combo presented a good option for those who were already interested in MLB to spend just $10 more and get NBA along with it, acting as a quasi-price drop given that game was still going for $30+ on its own at that time. Amazon even offered a $10 promo credit with pre-orders making it essentially a $60 package for the two.
The combo pack is back for MLB 2K13 and NBA 2K13 but this ti...
MLB 2K13 Being Kept Hidden Even With Release Right Around The Corner
When the news broke that the MLB 2K series would be getting a one year reprieve expectations for the product were made justifiably lower than already had been normal. With a constrained development cycle and bleak outlook towards any future there became no reason to expect anything better than what would amount to an update of 2K12. In the month since the announcement 2K Sports has done nothing but further cement that troubled perception. (more…)...
MLB 2K13 Perfect Game Challenge Will Split $1 Million Between 30 Winners
Expectations for MLB 2K13 are lower than ever for the much maligned series after getting a one year reprieve. With three weeks to go until release no information on any potential improvements have been detailed and all that has been seen is a single sub-par screenshot. The one thing 2K Sports is willing to discuss though is the Perfect Game Challenge.
Instead of just a single $1 million winner 2K13 will split the cash between 30 people (one perfect game for every MLB team) with each recei...
What to Expect from MLB 2K13
The announcement of MLB 2K13Â made earlier this week caught everyone off guard and for good reason. The third party league license that had been signed in 2005 expired and Take Two (parent company of 2K Sports) had long expressed their disdain for the deal which the leadership inherited as they lost over $30 million every year. At the same time they made clear their intention to turn towards projects which were based on owned IP rather than licensed properties. A deal with MLB was not immedi...
First MLB 2K13 Screenshot and Details on Feature Set
The surprise announcement that the MLB 2K series would return for another year - and the new license agreed upon with MLB is just for one year - came down this morning. Though the cover athlete news was announced along with it (David Price) no details on what to expect from the game feature wise were made immediately available.
Now though there is a early features list for the game that won't quell any pessimism around how much work is going to be put into the product. It contains only fe...
2K Sports Startles Everyone By Announcing MLB 2K13
Huge surprise today as 2K Sports has officially announced MLB 2K13. Last year the third party exclusive license with the MLB expired and at the time the company did not renew. That deal was losing Take Two over $30 million every year. At some point in between then and now a deal was reached to continue to the 2K series but under much more favorable terms.
2K is now operating under an agreement that is not exclusive and financially reasonable. MLB was in a position where they could either ...
Revisiting the Top Stories of 2012: MLB 2K12 Perfect Game Contest Controversy
The $1 Million Perfect Game Challenge entered its third year with MLB 2K12 and 2K Sports finally got the structure right by turning it into an actual challenge rather than a race. The first two years had the winner complete the task on the first day essentially ending the promotion prematurely. That would no longer be the case as 2K12's competition involved a month long window where any perfect games completed would be "scored" based on a number of factors with the top eight earning a spot i...
